Christianity's forgiveness is a wildcard? Wow! That's what you don't understand, guys: we are all sinners, we can all do our best to gain forgiveness through faith. There are people following the Bible literally who might not be saved because in truth they have no faith and there are atheists who may find the faith a moment before they die and get salvation, just to make two opposite examples.
There is no contradiction in sinning and being a Christian.
“Salvation is not of works, but of faith”.
Christianity's forgiveness is indeed a wildcard. No matter how good you live your life, or no matter what bad things you do in life, for christianity it's enough to ask for forgiveness to "earn your path to heaven" once again. Like you said all you need is faith. And as long as you have this "faith" - and I know I'm putting it rather offensive - people can be the biggest shithead on the planet, they can rape, murder, steal all they want because all they have to do is ask forgiveness. That sounds like a wildcard to me.
When it comes to "There is no contradiction in sinning and being a Christian" I can only repeat what I wrote earlier:
You have a religion where church and scriptures basically say that sex outside of marriage and sex for pleasure is a sin and shouldn't be done. For a big part of your life you are doing a mortal sin (meaning: deliberate turning away from god) and you know that you are doing a mortal sin because as a christian you have to try to avoid it. So, knowing that you turn away from god for a big part of your life and yet calling yourself a christian is a contradiction.
I think it's the way you put it. Sinning is part of Christianity and it evolves alot around sin. But it still is a contradiction to willingly live your life in sin and still call yourself a Christian.
