Is Halloween championed throughout the UK and / or Europe ?

Is it gaining popularity over the years ?

Are there night clubs etc. that get all roudy & gussied up ? Where ?

Thanks !

It must be nice to live in a place where corporations still haven't found every last thing they can market the hell out of to milk that much more money.

Halloween used to be great as a kid, going out trick or treating but I think it's lost it's popularity over the years. I think it's due to it being so dangerous to let your kids out on their own nowadays.
We have a couple of kids off the street each year and they don't even make their own costumes.
Last year I had a couple of older kids come round wanting sweets and asked if I wanted them to watch my car, laughing I said "No thanks, i've got a big dog". The eldest lad turned round and said "Yeah but can it put out fires"!:mad:
Not like it used to be, no hope for the kids of the future. If my kids want to do something it's probably better to let them have a party at home.

They've done so well with the youngsters . . . why not capture the imaginations of the adults !
Ever notice how much sooner "they're" launching this thing ?

There's already an ad on the Yahoo homepage in ref to Halloween Items . . . . for adults, mind you !

Over Zealous, Capitalist Pigs ! :1orglaugh

Thanks to you Americans, we now have to deal with gangs of snotty nosed kids coming round "trick or treating", and they egg your car if you don't give them stuff.

The first time it happened, I answered the door and there were this bunch of kids in masks going "trick or treat!!!!".

I went "What the fuck is trick or treat?"

They explained the principle, I thanked them gravely and explained that they must have got lost, as America was 3,500 miles in that direction.

I remember as a kid we all thought "trick or treat" meant give us a treat or we will pull a trick on you lol.The truth is I beleive the saying's origins are that children would eitheir be given a treat or the person would perform some sort of trick to amuse them.

Halloween is my Christmas!

Yeah!

How old are those bones now 2, 3 thousand?

:D

Great topic. I know that Thanksgiving is very big with the Italians.

It's not here.

Then again we are talking a country that only has 8 national holiday's a year. Well behind everyone else. There was talk of a Britain day. Yes we know dumb title, but hey we wasn't complaining it was another holiday.

It could be worse. You could be like us where corporations have practically invented holidays just to sell stuff. :1orglaugh

Yep all this hoopla for giving cards and such on mothers day, fathers day, bosses day, secretary's day,and lots of other "days" is what keeps Hallmark happy.

Trick or Treat meant to me, and most kids, either the kid does a trick for the treat, or they just get a treat. Most people just give the treat, but when they ask for a trick first, some kids get confused. The trick was supposed to ad fun to it. Nowadays, it's politically incorrect to reward for work.
