The way I see it, life begins at the moment of conception . . . however that doesn't mean I believe a woman shouldn't have the right to choose, nor do I believe that abortion is murder.
I would have to call it manslaughter though.
Whether or not the baby is "just a bunch of cells" or not is ultimately irrelevant. All things being equal, if not interfered with those "bunch of cells" will, naturally and on their own, develop into a fully formed human being. In its early stages, a fetus (embryo, or blastocyst, or what-have-you), WILL become a human life. It is a potential life, the same type of life that is protected by law in the case of another human being causing a miscarriage via trauma being held accountable for taking a life.
Life is life, people. I don't support any argument that says otherwise.
However, like I said before, that doesn't mean I am against abortion. While I beilieve that an unborn baby, regardless of stage of development is a life, and respect it as such, I also understand that the baby doesn't develop independently. There is another life involved in the decision to abort . . . the life of the would-be mother.
The right of a woman to choose when and where to procreate is not just some dreamed up liberal theoretical nonsense. It is not just a social right, not a civil right, but a HUMAN right, the right for each and every one of us to choose what is best for ourselves alone. It is a both a principal question of liberty, weigh against the ultimate burden of responsibility . . . responsibility to the human race, biologically, to one's people socioculturally, and to one's self and close relatives, family-wise.
I think the best answer is, "Yes, you have the right to choose, but know that in choosing abortion you are absolutely taking a life."
Perhaps if more people saw it this way, striking a balance between obligation and freedom, we would have better educated women, who can make better informed decisions about themselves, and about the future generations that we rely on them to bring forth uinto this world.
And don't give me that mularkey about abortions being an excuse for irresponsible, promiscuous behavior in women today. Hypersexualizing our children is what has caused teen pregnancy to increase, not abortion clincs or the morning after pill.
Just my two cents.
