Internet debating/arguing

What is your initial mental purpose in signing into Internet message forums, and debating and arguing issues in philosophy, morality, ethics, culture, society, science, religion, politics, and suchlike?

My initial mental purpose could be attributed to lonesomeness coupled with a desire to dazzle with complex compound sentences, and a flavorful vocabulary. I have never initially harbored a concern with being correct or right, just simply considered a person with deep content - verbally, topic-wise, and thought-wise.

You?

I would have to say that my main purpose is usually to entertain. I love giving the gift of laughter and smiles to those friends on the board and real life.

More akin to what you are referring to, PP, is when I will make more serious posts (which all depends on the thread and what my first thoughts are). When I try and make a point or debate and argue an issue, I just try to put down on the computer what I'm thinking in my head. I do make some effort to use my vocabulary a bit and use proper grammar.

But it is all about getting your point across in a most effective fashion. To do this sometimes takes a little bit of time, some rewrites etc. What I want is for those who read my post to know just exactly how I feel. Simple as that. Sometimes it's just a matter of giving your own :2 cents:, sometimes you're defending your beliefs, etc. etc. It makes me feel good knowing I had something to say and I said it.

If I decide to debate in a thread on a serious discussion, it is because I feel passionately about that subject. I never claim to know everything about it, but always have strong feelings towards it. Sometimes, regretfully, I let my emotions get the best of me and come off as condescending. My intended purpose of posting though is just to throw out my personal viewpoints on things and hope that people understand, because I know they will not always agree.

i like to discuss the topics in this forum. i dont think i have debated or argued at any point in this forum but i like how this board shows respect for the most part for people who are contesting their opinions. i am in some message boards (myspace tna wrestling) that just rip on the other person and their personal looks or whatever, kinda like high school! this forum is pretty good to sum it up.

Mainly contributing, share my opinion and enthusiasm for some subjects as well as have some good laughs. I also like to see other people's point of view and way of understanding things.

persona non grata
I only post in a thread if i have something to say about the subject. Postwhoring just to get the post count up is something i find completely pointless.

This topic reminds me of high school.

I never liked to fight because I don't want to hurt anyone, so everyone like to pick on me.

I've been 6'1' since I was twelve, but they hit me because I would not not fight back.

Anyhow when I was in high school, one day after a long hard day a guy started hitting me. (Can't remember his name) tell I fell down and then he started to kick me with everyone watching. No one did a thing. When he got done, he laugh, turn and started to walk away.

I was so angry, I got up and for the first time I fought back.
I yelled some profanity at him. he turned back around and before he could do a thing I hit him in the jaw
and broke it.

He had to go to the hospital and have jaw wired shut.

No one pick on me after that.

When I got home I could not stop shaking, because I didn't want to hurt him. I hate to fight but push me far enough and I will.

Same thing a joke to you maybe a joke, but to someone might not take it that way. You might hurt someone's feelings.

This is not High School Can't we all get along, lets all be friends.

sorry if this off topic, I need to let that out.

In serious threads sometimes I like to share my opinion, because I feel strongly about whatever it is the thread is about.

I find that on the internet people say things they would never dare say in reality, and when arguments start in forums its a good example of that! So i'll make a few replies, and if people get mad with their overly-opinionated remarks and cringeworthy sarcasm i'll leave it at that...

xx

Hmmm...well. I say nothing I wouldn't say in real life personally.

I have an opinion and it is used on the internet same as in real life, in the same way I am generally polite and courteous in real life and the internet.

Why live a fake existence on a forum?

I am myself on the net 100% and I debate in my rl also, with family and friends. Its a part of real life to discuss and have opinions too, not just on boards. I never understood the being someone else thing either. I never try to be nasty and don't toss names like I'm on a playground either. Not on the net or in rl. I hate that too.

Doesn't feed trolls and would appreciate it if you
An amusing quote comes to mind: "Arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics: even if you win, you're still retarded."

That said, I look into those more serious posts for entertainment and enlightenment. I learn a surprising amount, or, at least above all, to question what I do know.

Me too, people who be nasty on the internet just because they can really annoy me. >_>

Some people just like to start crap because they get off on it. Those are the same people who, in real life situations, get their asses beat down like a rented mule.

I'm on a life long crusade to get drugs decriminalized. And find a moderately attractive, intelligent woman who likes ass-to-mouth.
