If you have an active social network (people you interact with), you get introduced to all types of peope (i.e. "girls"). The more people you interact with, the more opportunities you have to meet people...the greater likelihood 1) your social confidence rises 2) the odds of you meeting girlS rise exponentionally. His friends serve as social training wheels - and if they are worth a shit, they too, will draw people to them. If you go out - go clubbing and don't talk to dozens of females by the end of the night, then the friends you're hanging out with are hurrrible

What part do your friends play in you speaking to girls? Other than prompting you, the move is yours to make, short of your friends throwing you into a bystanding girl, responsibility falls to the individual. Blaming it on friends is an excuse made by someone who lacks the balls to do it himself. Equally the man who waits for the woman to speak to him, is gonna be sat lonely on that barstool.

No one said that at all. Why should the only place to meet someone be in the cliche hell of a drunken night at a club. People meet everywhere and easily by accident, the person who goes looking to meet someone intentionally can just as easily meet no one whereas someone, lets use your example, on a trip to a library can meet someone.
You dont meet people just to "fuck", sex is just a small part of a relationship. If all you want is sex, go pay for it. Relationships exist to give us all someone to share our lives with, not just a sexual partner.

Ok I was once like you, what you need to do is (it really works!) join up a few online dating sites or even ones for people looking for one night stands. You won't be successful about 75% of the time but send messages or winks to girls there you like the look of, you will eventually get a reply. Since you are shy i'm sure it will be easier to start talking to someone online than face to face. Just make sure you talk to girls that live near you lol no use getting to know a girl that lives cross country or in another country!

I have a friend that is just like you. He's not the most good looking guy or the most confident but I always try and help him out whenever the boys and I go out. Usually we hit up the clubs or a party and I'll bring him along and sometimes and I'll introduce him to some of my female acquaintances.
