If You Could be the Best Athlete in the World at One Sport

Your choice?

I'm torn on this one because I damn near played every sport you can play growing up. I personally would like to be the American/white version of Pele, but I wouldn't mind being the greatest tennis, hockey or basketball player in the world either.

But yeah, I'd have to go that I wish I could lead the national team in the World Cup and be the greatest, most brilliant soccer player on the planet and be a Yankee. That would be pretty damn cool. The Europeans would hate it. And the salaries the guys in the Premier League are second to none.

Golf, definitely. And I don't even play. But I would be Tiger Woods (with better judgement, better discretion and better taste in women) in a heartbeat. Think about it.

1. No running.
2. Someone does your carrying for you.
3. Only in good weather.
4. Stop when it gets dark.
5. Shit loads of money (Google "Tiger Woods Yacht").
6. People hired to tell other people to shut the fuck up while you're working.

My God, it's the perfect sport!!

I've had the discussion with my buds and we've all heard the question is it really a sport? I'm already a single digit, but honestly I think it's too easy a sport. I asked one of my best friends what he thinks is the hardest sport to play and he said golf. I think it's tennis, by far. I say tennis only because it's all about you; there are no other teammates to help you out, and unlike a sport like golf where you walk around and can eat hot dogs and still win tournaments every week, in tennis you have to be the fittest athlete on the planet.

Golf has it's good parts, but that would probably come up on my list

1 Soccer
2 Tennis
3 Hockey
4 Basketball
5 Golf
6 Baseball
7 Football

This is a good thread and I seriously do not want to deviate from the topic. But, this whole thing about what is or isn't a sport doesn't do it for me. Golf, curling (which I love), synchronized swimming, motorsports, whatever. Sport is in the eye of the beholder. If you enjoy watching and/or participating, that's all you need.

And one of my points was that it is "easy", at least the no running part.

You're not deviating at all. It's a good question. Me being a decent golfer I kind of get peeved when people ask if golf is "athletic" or a legitimate sport. No question you have to have hand/eye coordinationg and mental toughness. But I have to admit, there is no question the saying golf is 10% physical, 90%mental is totally accurate.

If there weren't some sports like that, I feel that it would diminish the quality of what we call sports. There has to be a wide range of variety and disciplines. Auto racing isn't physical at all but Dale Earnhardt Sr. showed what balls the size of grapefruits will do for you. Curling and bocce ball are about coordination and precision. Competitive sailing (Regatta) is about teamwork, experience and adaptability. All these variations are a part of sports. At least I think so. It can't/shouldn't just be about running around and scoring goals.

Great thread and I'm with you as I would like to be a great soccer player based in Europe. I would be the greatest American soccer player ever to play the game and would be up there with the likes of Pele and Maradona. Think of some of the top players right now like Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi, these guys are global superstars who are recognized virtually all around the world. I would play for one of the top clubs in Europe such as Man U or Barcelona and lead my club to glory in the Champions League and in the World Cup.:)
