The Beatles were going to be in an adaptation of Lord Of The Rings. If I am not mistaken, John was to be Gollum, George as Gandalf, Paul as Frodo and Ringo as Sam. Story goes that Richard Lester (A Hard Days Night, The Three Musketeers) was to be director, but he dropped out and was replaced by Stanly Kubrick. Kubrick later deemed the project unfilmable.
