I love it when a rarely used expression like "beyond the pale" (interesting, E European origin, incidentally) Freudianly creeps into someone's speech. When all the ruckus started, I'm pretty sure that I saw Donna Brazile use it in a similar way, on someone's show (wholly defensible, BTW, but colloquially, that's a dog whistle, right?).
