I know it's for a good cause and all,but...

is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Ice Bucket Challenge?

First off, just to dump a bucket of ice water over your head, well, that's pretty fucking stupid no matter what it's for,but my main issue it this.

Celebrities doing it is one thing, but Homer fucking Simpson?! And I just saw this gem

I don't know,it just seems like it's getting out of hand.Like I said,I know what they are going for,but it's just starting to seem to be more about getting attention for the person dumping the bucket of ice water over their heads more than actually raising money for ALS research.

Sorry,I might have all of this wrong and might be sounding like an asshole, but it's just how I'm seeing it right now unless someone can enlighten me.

Oh,and no,I won't be doing that shit for anything,so if anyone wants to be a wise and nominate me,they are going to be shit out of luck.

Yeah it's boring.
I'm'sure a lot of people think it's a game and don't even donate.
If you want to donate, donate but don't flood the web with stupid challenges.

And from the few I know, the thing is to challenge somebody, and if the person doesn't do it, he donates. Everybody does it so in theory, no donation.

Anyway, that's stupid, like the moustache month was stupid.

I am not sure. I am split on the matter. When i seen President Bush do it I thought that was pretty awesome of him to do that. I guess it because I am almost certain that he did it with the most authenticity, but than I see other people doing it purely because it went viral, just like Gangnam Style and Harlem shake before it, where the cause becomes a parody of itself. i don't know I guess as long it raises awareness and donations continue. I am just kinda irk by the fact that while West Coast is in drought, people can be so clueless how precious that water is now and later.

Yep over it. Its good if you're a narcissist I suppose..... but considering a quarter of the world (or there abouts) don't have access to the same kind of clean fresh water, seems to be throwing that fact in their face, so to speak....

I've got a better challenge.

I think it's fine when people do it and actually donate towards the cause, but I see plenty of people doing it just to inflate their own egos and fish for facebook likes.

Thanks guys,I was starting to think I was just becoming a huge asshole,or maybe we are all just assholes:dunno:

Either way,I'm pretty much over the whole thing now.

Yeah, I would be more impressed if they showed video of themselves actually sending in a check to the charity than the stupid challenge. This isn't quite as dumb as the pass if forward stuff at Starbucks that's more of feel good thing than actually donating at all because all it does is shift cost to the next person while the total money spent is almost the same, but it's close.

It's also kind of hilarious to see some politicians do it when in the near past they had no problems drastically cutting funding for ALS research.

Everyone I know who has done it, also donated money. If this is what it takes to generate revenue for medical research, I don't have a problem with it.

Someone was telling me that they had heard some guy on TV going on about how it was a waste of good clean water. So, according to him, he was going to do it without wasting water. His supposed bright idea was to use water from the toilet. Uhhh, EXCUSE ME?!!! Unless he was going to use toilet water in which he just finished taking a wiz and / or a dump in ... he was still going to be wasting water.

It's supposed to be for Charity. But many people uses it for publicity for themselves instead of talking about that horrible disease...

So far over 100 million has been raised for ALS research.

Then again to put that in perspective and show where our priorities are that's well under a third of the cost to make a singular F22 fighter jet or about 1/15 the amount people have spent on the best selling video game and movie recently. Even that took a faddish gimmicky viral campaign that will be forgotten in the vary near future.

The one and only.
Most of the kids at school who are participating don't know what ALS is or that the challenge is supposed to be raising awareness of it. They just want an excuse to film themselves and post it on Facebook.

Sadly I feel the social pressure is more of a popularity contest than choosing to do good because of the cause. Challenges came, but I chose to quietly donate to a few charities I trust. I'm sure ALS means well, but I haven't researched how their funds are used.

Haven't done it and if challenged I won't. I donate my money to other causes that are much "closer to home" than ALS. And here in CA this is the last thing we should be doing with the massive drought we are having.
