Hurricaine Ike,the newest storm of the century

You all hang in there and be careful. Word to the wise, if you look out your windows and you see fish, it's probably time to get the hell outta your house. Stay safe!

In the immortal words of Lieutenant Dan..

"Come on! You call this a storm? Blow, you son of a bitch, blow! It's time for a showdown! You and me! I'm right here! Come and get me! Ha ha! Ha ha! You'll never sink... this... boat! Ha ha ha ha!"

The media is so full of shit these days, they LOVE this crap. OK, its a storm and its not like we haven't had them before, but oh "its the end of the world". The storm is coming, the storm is coming"

Just when did you have a Cat 3 storm around 600 miles across? Or are you just trying to sound smarter than you are?
Do you have a date when the last one this big made landfall right on top of a major population center? Or are you just talking shit for lack of something relevant to say?

It's not like a thunderstorm dude. It's not just going to rustle the trees and then disappear in 20 minutes.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
I can't believe the size of this monster storm they showed a satelite image that was like 800 + miles wide from band to band!! thats a mega monster!!

I certainly hope there are not mass casulties because they said an estimated 90 thousand people refused, ignored orders to evacuate the area where they are projecting this monster is gonna plow through!!

the experts are already estimating that this hurricane will be the costliest storm in american history!! of course all of this is projected and speculation until IKE runs its course and passes, then all the damage and everything is assesed!! goodluck to everybody in IKES path!! :hatsoff:

Hope you guys down there are ok! I've been watching CNN, must be unbelievably scary! Looks like Houston is taking a direct hit. I'm concerned about someone down there, hope everyone is safe!:(

I just saw it's down to a cat 1. Probably not quite the storm of the century.

While it didnt make landfall as a cat 4 as they said it might it did make landfall as a weak cat 3.Once they hit land they always lose strenght. And the real thing people should notice in all this IMO is how more often major hurricaines seem to be forming these days. What used to happen every 50 years or so is now happening every 2 or 3 years and this year it has been a couple big ones already and the years not over yet.Weather patterns are changing right in front of our eyes.

Dont speak to soon, this century is only young and with global warming, we can look forward to storms the likes of which no one has ever seen.

Cat 1? Were you asleep and dreaming?
Ike hit as a 3, went through as a Cat 2...not so bad if it was smaller, but as wide as it was, and considering how dead center it hit in the 6th largest populated city in the US...shit, what a mess.
Walls fell around my building, with the few required uprooted trees...power was only out in my apt for 3 days...still out in most of the area. Just got dial tone, but DSL is still out.
I am sick over the ruination of Galveston, Freeport, and all the coastal areas I have been in so many times. So many people affected...
Sometimes ya lose...this was a shitstorm that landed.
Woy...Jagger69...other coastal Texans...how are you doin'? Some people may not have power or 'net yet, check in and share what happened.
My neighbor just got back from Palestine 2 days before Ike, never was in any kind of storm before...he'll never forget the last 4 days! And in the middle of Ramadan, too...we BBQ'd most of our freezer meat immediately after the 'cane went by, no power and we all were hungry.
Almost had fun waiting for power, and basic civilization to return; lotta apt residents gathered by candlelight, by the pool and on balconies, to consume non-perishable liquor stocks and eat everything that might spoil without refrigerators.
I managed to keep nearly all my fish alive (7 aquariums), dipping water out and pouring it back in every hour or so...a friend lost years of hard work and at least half his aquariums when the power went. I was lucky.
Twinkie the Russian Dwarf hamster never noticed, mostly slept through the whole thing.
I hope everyone else came out on the other side of the storm as well as I did...lots of people got hit really hard.

Its good to hear you made through the storm without any major damage, and I am glad to hear your fish and other pets are ok! you take care! :hatsoff:

I just got my power back yesterday. I lost my fence in the incident but everything else but power was ok. :D I got to know my neighbors better and I spent nights outside looking at the stars and eating non perishable foods lol. A few of my friends and family lost their roofs and some of them lost both power and running water. It will take a while before we all recover fully from the storm.

Just saying ~

If anybody could endure hardships, it is the Spirit of Texans that will prevail. It's not like they haven't had catastrophes there before ! Galveston has been decimated at least twice prior to this recent 'cane. They don't whine, They get back up off their rears and quietly rebuild.

Storm of 1900 Pictorial - Now here was a cat 4 Hurricane 108 years ago mind you ! and we didn't have "global warming" to help form it. Oh sure, the global warming hysterics would have you believe that under today's conditions, the Storm of 1900 would equate to a cat. seven, if it were to play out today. It's just delusional hogwash.

Again, Galveston was destroyed in 1947. A cargo ship full of Ammonium Nitrate exploded, and explosion so great that the ship's 2 ton anchor was found 1.62 miles from the point of ignition.
History

One group of whackos say that it's "globe warm" . . . the other claim that we're "under judgment"
lol !

I am confident that the Texans will prevail and be stronger for it. :D

That freakish SOB curved inland instead of staying on the coasts. As a result the Midwest including here in Michigan got plowed by record winds.
