Only stupid porn site people will go for the .xxx domain. This domain makes no sense at all. It's only easier to ban those sites then.

Booze companies might go for the xxx designation. Make xxx the domain of vice. I like it.

How it's suppose to work is, all the adult sites are suppose to migrate over to .xxx over a couple of years. How it will probably work is, all the established sites will spend $15-25 a year for their ".xxx" equivalent and forward all hits back to their normal ".com" name. In a few years people will forget .xxx exists.

So then what is/was the point of creating .xxx then?

There isn't one. That's why ICANN refused to create it for the last 13 years. IMO, it's mainly being pushed by a bunch of groups that naively think they can quarantine porn in an "internet red-light district." But it probably won't work.

There's a few porn companies that have bought up .xxx, it's pretty controversial. Especially since ICM is now starting to take back domains people bought because they're good names that ICM didn't think to reserve. Plus, they're extorting people for money. They've come with the message "buy this insanely expensive tdl otherwise a porn company might use it and ruin your good name". Several colleges and uni's are now buying them up so the big bad porn companies can't use the names.

Actually, it's quite a bit more expensive than $15-25 a year. The whole thing is ridiculous.
