How to: take a screenshot of a video clip?

Since we can't upload videos to our posts, and I have no idea where I got a particular video clip, I need to know how to screenshot a video. I want to post it in the "identify / name the babe" section of the forums so I can figure out who one of the ladies is.

If I paste it to paint, the image simply saves as a black screen. :dunno:

So in order to give people an image to recognize and ID, I need to learn how to screenshot.

Do you hit the PrtSc button (print screen), then just paste it in paint or photoshop then. It should work.

....or you can use a program made for making screen captures (SnagIt, HyperSnap, Image Grabber).

Vista has a built in screen capture utility called snipping tool.

Many video players have a "snapshot" function built in them so you can use one of those to play your video in and take a snapshot of what you want from the video.

afaik for the most players you can't use PrtSc or simple screen capture tools cause you often just have a capture including the video player displaying just a black screen.

personally i use VLC (video lan client - best player i know if you add the DJBCP Codec Pack) and you can do a capture with that tool. (google vlc to get it)

but there have to be better tools out there to create vidcaps. in special i'd like to know which tools are able to append a defined amount of captures from one movie into one image.

How does that work?
Theres an option to create a series of pictures. But I dont get how to resume them to only ONE capture-image like the following:
