Some people have also anglicized their surname when moving into foreign countries. The famous Goldsmith dynasty in the UK started out as Goldschmidt (German) and the Britiah royal family name was changed to Windsor from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (German).

I'm #1.......1 in 99 families in the US!!! My 1st name would be #2 if it were spelled the most common way.......but it is spelled differently, so it's #157......1 in 869 males! What is the prize for most common???
 
Mine is very rare, I guess they don't have an extremely rare category since everyone in the country with it is a relative, no further than third cousin.

There's a famous composer who shares my last name phonetically, but doesn't have the same spelling as mine. Interestingly enough, the Americanized version of my family's last name is nowhere near what it should have been given the original.
 
not in the first link and very rare in the second. i only know of maybe 5 other people in the US with my last name and i think were all distantly related. so....yea

and my parents even went to italy a few years back, my mom found her maiden name, but my pops couldnt find jack shit in the records of the area were from
 
My forename is #1 in the US.

My surname is #156 in the US.
