How old is old?

I'm 29 but I guess it's relative.

In sports terms, if I were an NFL QB, I'd be a veteran but probably past my prime and on the down slope. If I were a featured running back I'd be way past my shelf life.

But if I were in politics, I'd be a baby.

Fuck time.

I certainly hope 27 isn't considered old, or I'll have to retire soon, being 26 and all :p

Gonna go with the cheesy, "age is a state of mind" answer.
I've met plenty of people in their 50s and 60s who are far more active, adventurous and young spirited than most 20-somethings.

When I was in high school, 30 seemed ancient. Now at 30, it doesn't seem so old...

My sophomores right now are 15 and 16 years old. We had a moment of silence on 9/11 and a brief discussion about the events during class. They were 2 and 3 years old when it happened. Everything they've learned about it has come from other sources. They were too young to remember or experience any of it. That made me feel fucking old.

I've had co-workers talk to me about games that played in school on Macs. Then I've politely explain that when the Macs came out, I had graduated and was in the military.

I have to agree. It reminds me of this Toyota commercial:

Windows XP at 13 years old is apparently a freakin' fossil ... even thought that's what I'm using. :D

But, you at 27 years old, Mr_Balls ... heck no, you're not old.
If you were a Rock Star, you probably wouldn't be getting kicked out to pasture quite just yet. I don't think you'd be having to change over quite just yet to playing in little clubs and free festivals after having played to sold out crowds in huge arenas in your younger years.

27 years old is not exactly Keith Richards territory. :rofl2:
Saw him the other night on The Tonight Show. Yikes! Looked about like 327 years old.

A sign of age for me was having co-workers who were born after I had graduated from college.

Old is not a number, it's a feeling. You're old when you feel old, when you act as if you were old.

Au contraire, if you were a rock star, 27 is about the age you might be considering shuffling off the mortal coil altogether...

Doh! That's right! There IS that speed bump that he'd have to worry about until he got past it.
Then again, he might then look old because of all the worrying about it.

Like Animus Fox said, it's all relative. I constantly get called young man in my job and even got called a kid by a customer the other day. But I avoid nightclubs like the plague these days because I don't want to be, to quote Chris Rock, the old guy in the club. Not old, old, just a little too old to be in the club. :yoda:

88 is old when you can hardly walk and need a cane or wheelchair... damn if you think 27 is old you need to talk to somebody...

Yeah, it really is more about state of mind and spirit than numbers.

But if I had to break things down by numbers I'd say you're young until you're 40
40 to 65 is middle aged
65 and up is senior
80 or more is old

I used to have a cut off statement: If you can remember where you were at when you heard that President Kennedy had been shot you are old.
