How do you cope with recession?

Hi guys, I was just wondering how you cope with recession... Do you shop less, eat less expensive things, buy less clothes, etc?

How are things in your part of the world? In economic terms of course...

I've always been cautious with money, only spend within my means, no extravagant buys only get what you really need or want depending on your income, shop around online for best prices, only buy new clothes when necessary, cook at home rather than eat out and sell unwanted items on eBay. Every person is and circumstance is different, being financially cautious can get you through most economic downturns but losing your job unexpectedly, sudden health problems, marriage breakups and other such things are not always easy to predict and can be hard to deal with. I have little smpathy for people who spend beyond their means just to project an image then get caught out as the economy worsens and they find they can't clear their loans or credit card debts.

I'm fortunate to live within 2 miles of just about any and every retailer you can imagine, I use this to my advantage because instead of buying my goods at one or two stores, I buy bits and pieces at several stores. Big Lots and Dollar Tree stores often have bargain prices on broken carton or discontinued name brand items. Also, there are a handful of Grocery Outlet stores as well as other grocery stores that are subsidiaries of larger parent company grocery chains that offer name brands at discounted prices. You just gotta go out there and do some value seeking on your own, you'll likely be surprised at the value out there if you look for it. If you live in an area where you don't have too great of a distance between retailer, by all means, use it too your advantage, shop in pieces.

I try to do a little less blow... and save a little more money.

Easier said than done. :jonesing: :D

cook at home rather than eat out

That's huge right there, great advice... I'd even go as far as brown bagging it for lunch if need be, in addition to saving money you will likely eat much healthier in the long run.

I wouldn't say I'm in a recession cause I've always been like this, but I eat less, wear the same clothes, I'll borrow somebodies book and scan the pages in the library for class, at nite I just use one light in the entire studio and thats the hall light, I've never had cable, just a vhs at first, then a dvd player, then the internet, so it helped when netflix and hulu plus came along, don't go to bars unless a friend invites me which means he getting the tab, I don't own a car, just a eagle scooter series 250cc that i take just to work and class. recession? nah, I don't know the word yet. It won't hit me til it starts dipping in my eightball and hookers once a week fund.

Adjusting lifestyle is easier to type than actually practice, particularly if you were already living a modest lifestyle. ;)

I do the same while watching the ever growing number of people on welfare who never intend to find a job. The economy is getting much worse in my area.
