"World Champions" as defined by more self aggrandizing, arrogant, narcissistic and full of hubris Americans @ Wikipedia. :1orglaugh
Interesting topic, sir ed. :hatsoff:

Until the rest of the world puts together a football team, or league for that matter, the Super Bowl winner is the World Champion.
There is a competition called theThat’s like Manchester United, the current premier league champions,
calling themselves world champions when they haven't played against
any team outside England to win the title. The world football champions
will be crowned in the few months time in South Africa where teams from
all over the world will play each for the right to genuinely call themselves
the world Champions.
Is it just me or do some Americans think planet earth starts and ends in America? :dunno:
ed007 & Greg they just dont grab the concept of the world involves the world , they are just the champions of America and to be declared world champs you would have to play the world , its like Falkirk winning the league in Scotland then suddenly calling themselves world champs
I know you have to play teams outside your country to even be considered world champs nevermind the world , thats why the soccer world cup is called the world cup because the world is involved in it at somepoint , the tournament in the summer is really the grand finale of a competition that has been running for two years already
The only reason they call them self world champs is because no-one outside America gives a shit really
Easy.
Pros call it world championships because they are paid athletes playing against the best players in the world at their sports.
There are foreign players playing in the NFL so it is a world sport played in 1 nation.
College players call it national championships because they are not paid...well most aren't.
I dunno...you seem pretty worked up about it...
By your definition, if there are any pro teams anywhere that didn't play in the limited playoff games then the title of FIFA Club World Cup Champs is bogus and shows a silly inferiority complex unfixable...did they beat Manchester? They are more like the 3rd World Champs, more likely.
PlasmaTwa2 said:Being the only pro league for American football, as well as the largest sports league of any kind in the world, it makes sense that the Saints can call themselves the world champions; they won the highest competition of their sport. By your logic, the winner of the FIFA World Cup is not a world champion, because there are comeptitive teams in the world that do not get a chance to play in the World Cup.
The Saints play American football. The NFL is the highest professional American football league in the world.
Hence, they are the world champions of American football.

Something lame you found from the 70s?
I have funny stuff I haven't posted 'cause I find it in bad taste to insult entire nationalities ...I have a scholarly treatise of French Military history and all the greatest surrender moments...but I haven't posted it here for civility's sake.
Obviously not a restricting factor to yourself.
You're so much better than everybody else. It's a blessing we get to read your posts. It truly is something special. :lovecoupl
While you are usually 2nd level funny, and sarcasm isn't your best forte, I can honestly say you are man enough to tell the truth on occasion.
Thank you for acknowledging the obvious.
