If it's a web based mail, simply create a new email that you use for things and contacts less inclined to cause spam. Migrate your old contacts to your new email addy, don't use the other nor respond to any of the spam and the spam will slowly die off.

Never use an email address you rely on for more of your necessary uses to sign up on sites inclined to deliver spam....use a browser that allows you to opt not to have cookies stored on you computer. I use Google Chrome Incognito mode.:2 cents:

I have a gmail account for anything that has to do with porn because of spam that way My regular e-mail is clean and free.

What he said. Or just don't give out your e-mail address at all. If you must, a dummy account is the way to go.

Well, it sort of depends on what service you're using. If you're using GMail, there's a very simple way to enact a filter that automatically moves your spam folder to your trash so it can be deleted easily, and securely. If it's another service, for the most part, you'd be better served getting another account. If the current addresses you have are absolutely crucial, and you'd like to keep them, you can very easily link them to a new account and still use them. But again, it depends on what service you're using.

Cookies typically get a bad rap nowadays, but really they're not the problem here. The problem is more with the sites being visited than any cookies. The sites are probably distributing his information via spiders, which are designed to just "crawl" through the Internet looking for email addresses, and when it finds them, it spams them.

Well cookies wouldn't have anything to do with his spamming issue and while they are generally harmless, 3rd party cookies can be a bit of a problem. I know browsers allow you to block specifically 3rd party cookies but I'd just prefer to block them all and take the extra time to re-enter data at various sites.

Spiders! should I call in John Goodman with his exterminator gear like he wore in arachnaphobia? I fucking hate spiders.............

Heres a little advice that might see you reduce your spam a little.

Firstly just by surfing will not cause your email address to be spammed in that manner
I have and use a yahoo account, and this has a very clever feature called I think "disposable inboxes". This feature allows you to set up what can be a temporary inbox which you can use to test whether or not you are likley to get spam by giving your email out to a site, the beauty being that if you start getting too much spam then just delete that inbox.

Some people mention Gmail, I have been using Gmail since it was first offered as a service and in opinion attracts the most spam to it compared to hotmail and yahoo mail, even though I rarely give this out to people or advertise it. Hotmail is by far the most junk free one I am using followed by yahoo and this is by far my most public address (regularly give this out!). Cookies are not the cause of you getting spammed by the way I constantly have cookies on, and rarely get that sort of problem.

You mention the spam ends up in the spam box and that you dont even wish to see it, why dont you set it to instantly be deleted in that case?
If you need to give your email out for say temporary access to a site then just make one up I use a email address xyz@spam.la if you go to the spam.la site you can view the message that might have otherwise have been sent to you. Hope this helps you.

That's about the only way to make it work. Also make sure your email is NOT listed on any web pages, like Myspace or Facebook. That will fuck you up for sure.

Same e-mail address for 20 years (yes, 20) ...

I've had the same e-mail address for 20 years (no, not profvolup, my real-world one), so there's no way I can stop people from sending shit to me or, worse yet, using my e-mail address as a popular, faked/forged spam address. I.e., I get bounces from people blocking spam sent faked/forged with my e-mail.

I use server-side filtering. Of course, it helps if you run your own server. I have since the late '80s with the same subdomain I always have, which the owner of the TLD still lets me A/MX record to my real server. And no, my servers didn't get taken down by the Morris Worm, I wasn't running Sendmail and was not allowing piping. There were other, ironically more simple, options even back then.

But even today the webmail providers have many tools. Of course the easiest one is to use a free account for porn, separate from your real! That one should be obvious. ;) I always used a fake e-mail for all my UseNet porn postings well before the web came about.
