horror movies

Well I just downloaded and watched Wolf Creek like I said I was gonna do. Pretty disappointed. Kind of a dull movie. I gave it a 6 on IMDb. I was gonna give it a five, but I enjoyed a few of the Kristy characters scenes so I was generous. She was so cute, like a cross between Jenna Fischer (Pam from "The Office") and Minnie Driver.

Thanks for the heads up on Blood Creek Numb3rs, I don't think I'll bother to watch it. And I agree on Hostel as well. I thought it was fairly original and I enjoyed the tone of the film. Which is funny because Saw got boring so quick (stopped after seeing part 3). Hostel 2 was pretty weak (replace guys with girls), but the ending was pretty unexpected. Haven't watched the third because I've heard it's horrible.

Not fond of it either. Hadn't watched it for this reason. A2M just ain't my thing.

Anyone know that ridiculously funny movie about animals turning into killer Zombies? Squirrels, raccoons, rabbits, oh my! One of the lines, even though I only heard it once, stuck in my memory and made me laugh so fucking hard:

"This town isn't cursed. It's fucked."

Wasn't that movie called Zombie Virus on Mulberry Street. It had zombie versions of animals in it as far as I can remember.

Screw changing your accents. That's just stupid. Unless it's a movie that is based off of stuff that's supposed to be happening in a particular country, for example, say, a movie made about... 9/11. It wouldn't make much sense for the people to all have British or Scottish accents.

But I love those accents! I could just sit and listen to you talk all day long and be happy. I don't even care what you're talking about. Just talk.

I don't notice the accent because I live with it around me all the time. But I'm sure that if someone who doesn't live in Scotland heard my accent they would say it stuck out a bit compared to the others around them. I remember one time I had a penpal who lived in Manchester and I called her one time. Actually it was for the first time and she said with an English accent "You sound dead Scottish". Hearing her say that sounded weird as to me it was just the norm. I agree completely on the whole accent thing Harley. If it doesn't require a certain accent then the person in the role should be able to use their own native accent. But the suits in Hollywood don't think like that. They think that people wont be able to understand the Scots accent or that people wont want to hear it (or hear a lot of the different English dialects either) so the actors put on an American accent for the roles in question.

Ewan McGregor.
Gerard Butler.
Sean "Overrated" Connery.
John Hannah (from the Brendan Frasier mummy movies).
Billy Connelly.
Craig Ferguson (the chat show host).

They have all fallen victim to the ignorant ways of Hollywood when it comes to accents.

Kieron Elliot from "Episode 50" is the only recent actor that I can think of that has escaped this fate. The rest seem to have the Scottish accent beaten out of them for their American movie roles. It's a shame if you ask me. It would make their roles more unique if they used their own accent.

I think it's just called Mulberry Street. I watched about the first... 40 minutes of that movie and turned it off because it was too tacky for me. The trailer made it look decent, but it really wasn't very good.

Oh yes, your scottish accents are very noticeable! I'm sure that English and Scottish folks think American accents are noticeable as well. Everyone has an accent to someone.

I actually really like Sean Connery. He's very popular and mostly it's the girls that love him. Not only because of his accent, but he has a deep voice too. Haha but I can understand why you'd think he's overrated!

I always wonder about true accents when I see a certain actor talking in one accent in one movie and another accent in another movie. Like James McAvoy for example; in Wanted, he has an American accent. In X-Men First Class, it's an English accent. And he pulls it off very well in my opinion. Is he American or is he English? I'm sure I could google it, but I'm too lazy right now.

Mulberry Street was alright but the same guys that made it did a great vampire flick called Stakeland.

I read it originally on wikipedia but that has since been deleted but it is bound to be remade/rebooted like everything else

true. maybe theyd get michael clarke duncan or michael cera to play penntwise...

i think one of the problems with hostel 2 is the camera work. the first was in your face the whole time, which gave it a personal feel. the sequel had lots of open shots, and expensive sets.

that, and like you said... it was pretty much a carbon copy of the first until the last 10 minutes.

and i have yet to see the last 2 saw films as well. although they all tied together, it just lost steam to me

This thread is always interesting. ;)

As far as accents go, try watching the US "American dubbed" release of Mad Max, vs the actual Australian version. Completely different movies. The Australian original version blows the dubbed version away.

I KNOW! :hairpull: i hate when they do that... i was watching "the protector" on ifc, and it was dubbed WITH subtitles... half of the time they didnt even match up with one another.

even with "high tension", which is an awesome horror film in my opinion, they threw in several minutes of subtitles for some reason

Now they are making remakes (or re-shoots, if you prefer) of movies that came out 3-8 years ago. Spiderman and Girl With the Dragon Tattoo come to mind.

Pretty soon they'll be making remakes of remakes of remakes... and it they'll be released within 3 months of each other. Yay, Hollywood.

Funny thing - I've noticed that many of the popular Hollywood actors are from Australia or England. Mel Gibson (born in NY, moved to Australia), Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Hugo Weaving... many more. And they all pull off great accents in whatever movies they are in.

comic book movies are just awful with remakes and reboots. punisher, spider-man, superman, batman, hulk, captain america (insert giggle here... anyone remember the italian red skull?), soon to be fantastic 4.... but on the same hand, thats probably the only type of movie where remakes are acceptable. story lines fade, actors get sick of doing the same role... just look at the tim burton batman films, and what happened after

Nicole Kidman isn't from America? Huh! Who woulda thunk?

Really? Oh my god I can't believe it was actually banned! I've never heard of a movie being banned in a country before. That's insane. Now I really gotta watch this movie.
You have never heard of "video nasties"? In the 80´s just about every horror movie with any kind of graphic violence either got cut to pieces by the censors, or got outright banned in many countries. In the UK they even cot a court order that said that all copies of The New York Ripper should get shipped out of the country. The most recent film that has gotten in serious trouble with the censors is A Serbian Film. It´s been banned in quite a few countries, even IMDB pretends like it doesn´t exists and have refused to put it in their database.

edit: I just checked, and it seems like IMDB have actually put it in their database now.

'Event Horizon' is one of my all time favorite sci-fi horror movies. i remember seeing it as a kid in a big, pitch dark almost empty theatre and it scared the living hell out of me. i remember wanting to leave but it literally had me froze in my seat in fear. watching it as an adult it still scares me and the fact that i believe in blackholes/wormholes and hell only makes it worse. lol!

imp this trailer doesnt give any real glimpse into how scary it actually is..

Nope, never heard of Video Nasties.

If Netflix has it, I think I'll watch A Serbian Film. If it's about a retired porn star doing porn because he's being forced to do with by some psychos, and if it's supposedly one of the most brutal, disturbing films made, I gotta see this and decide for myself. If it's not as disgusting as people make it out to be, I will be sorely disappointed and unimpressed with the general population's opinion on what's too much.

I just bought the Bella Lugosi Dracula, The Thing (prequel) and although not a horror film (till the johnny depp version comes out) Dark Shadows: The Barnabas Collins episodes

i hadnt seen this film until a few years ago. people were talking about it at a party, and when i said i never saw it, it was like one of those scenes where the whole room goes silent and they stare at the person...

it turned out to be pretty decent

it all depends on the type of people you know i suppose... and what you personally find disturbing.

from the description, i could probably see myself squirming a bit. just like when i saw the original "i spit on your grave/day of the woman". that movie disturbed me.

the bella era movies are in my opinion awesome. i have a tradition where i watch a black and white film/serial every halloween. "the phantom creeps" are up this year...

it always reminded me of "faces of death"... a reel of graphic movie clips. i still wish the extended depp death scene from nightmare on elm street made it to a form of film

Apparently there is a scene in that where he is forced to have sex with a toddler. I think I'd prefer a snuff film. Though I'll probably see worse if I get the job I am trying to get lol...but still.
