Hollywood Writers Go On Strike

Sounds like Hell's Kitchen or at least Chateau d' Inglese, Chef

I FINALLY saw that show the other night. Unfortunately, the channel that aired it had a very crappy sound quality at the time, so I couldn't understand anything. :dunno: It looked funny though.

$200,000 is still A LOT of money.

It is as a static figure, but when you consider the cost of living in LA and the income that's generated off their talent it's really not that much.

I was watching the A&E dvd version of "The Hunt For Red October" last night and they mentioned that Sean Connery alone made 14 (or was it 40?) times more money off that film than author Tom Clancy.

I just hope porn writers don't go on strike. What would the industry do then?

:1orglaugh

The thing is that everytime that movie is sold on DVD, shown on television, distributed on the internet, Sean Connery as well as the other actors, director, producers get paid. The writers, not so much. Hence the reason for the strike. The strike is very warranted. If anyone is greedy then it's the studio not the writers.

I agree with just about all the points made by Fox and Darkwarrior.
As Bodie54 said, the cost of living down there has to be taken into consideration, and I also think that statistic about the average salary is far fetched. They might make 200K one year, make 20-30K the next, then be unemployed for 2-4 years before selling some more of their work.
Sounds like they're putting a spin on the stats to reflect what they (the media moguls) want you to see!

I agree that the cost of living needs to be added into the equation as well. I have a few friends that live in Hollywood and they don't make anything close to $200,000/year, yet...they're doing just fine.

Yep, this is true as well. I wouldn't consider a script by script payment a steady form of income, so that is a bad thing for the writers. Unfortunately, it's no one's fault but their own if they're not getting work.

In movies for the last couple of years we've been getting remake after remake after remake, so you get what you pay for. (Is that even a point i dont know)

The matted sweat that gets soaked into Steve Buscemi's bellybutton lint could write better porn.

Oh, I need brain bleach™®© now.

So, your saying being a pizza deliveryman isn't that great of a job after all? :(:1orglaugh

I don't know. You can ask the guy who delivers the pizzas I order. I tip him well, but I think Senob would object if I...you know...

Based on the trash I've been watching I would have guessed that the writers have already been on strike for about the last decade save a few shows/movies. Let them strike... maybe eventually the networks give me a good reason to just cancel my cable all together and I can just watch DVD's.

Ok, this strike is seriously starting to suck. All reruns of all late night TV shows this week. I can't take another week of this, let alone a possible six months. I want my Conan and I want my Colbert Report!

Pay 'em their royalties already!!!

icerfan

Nikkala made me do it!
24 postponed until the end of the strike ... or next January! :crash:

Well at least it will stop all the dumb remakes they are making of classic films.

So this is good news to me.

Plus while they aren't working they might actually come up with something original for the first time in about 10 years.

No more Colbert Report or Daily Show :( I just hope it doesn't affect Stargate: Atlantis!
