Help! Linksys Wireless N Router can't access internet after reset!

Hey everyone,

I bought a new computer yesterday and figured I'd reset the router since I forgot the password and it should be easy enough to just set it up with a new one, I did it a thousand times in other places right? Wrong.

Now the router won't see internet regardless of if I'm connected wirelessly or through the ethernet cable. I DO connect to the router itself and can access the 192.168.1.1 default page; the router is a Wireless N Linksys router. It worked fine before the reset and now it doesn't see internet on any of the computers. The computers all use Vista and Windows 7,

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This might be a longshot but who knows. Many thanks for your time! :glugglug:

Default p/w is the ser. no. or model no.

The password was changed like a year ago and nobody remembers it since they saved it on all their computers and didn't write it down.

Hmmmm....maybe do ipconfig /all from the command prompt and locate the wireless security key there...

Oh...then change your username to unlucky001:o

You know, you're right. I could've probably seen the password from ipconfig or from the router's default page in the admin section. Or would it show up as asterisks there?

Either way, too late. I already reset the thing yesterday so it's all on defaults now. I try to connect even without security just to see what's wrong with the internet connection, I'm not sure what it could be. Probably have to reconfigure the router after the reset, maybe reconfigure the DNS servers and things like that. It doesn't even work through ethernet so it can't be related to the wireless.

I guess I'll have to call my ISP for that? Linksys wants to CHARGE for technical support. WTF?!

You should have got a netgear router, they don't charge for tech support, but that blows that Linksys charges just to reset a password. Sometimes the password may be your phone number did you try that?

I tried everything it could be, alas.

Thanks for the reply though. Apparently I'm finding many companies are now charging for customer service. I think this is the last straw for me in an economy.

Have you tried flushing the DNS, ipconfig release and renew? What was the original reasoning for touching it again...maybe we should start there....and figure it...I would hate to see you pay for something this easy to fix provide you do have good service to the router.

If you've done a reset on the router, google search default username/password on google for linksys. You should be able to find it, and it should be something like username: admin password: password.

Good luck!

As far as I can tell he's solved for the p/w problem but just has no connectivity for his network devices to the router.

Hey guys, thanks again for the replies.

I can connect to the router just fine, I have no problem connecting to the router or local network. The problem is then going from the router to the internet. I think I stumbled on something: it's possible the gateway IP of the DSL modem is the same as the router and that is causing issues. And it's possible that the IP of the router was set differently but reverted back to 192.168.1.1 when I did the reset. I will try this and update
