connecting XBOX to Internet/XboxLive WIRED

i have a wireless router from cisco but for some reason the signal strength for both my XBOX and PS3 is totally shitty and it takes me a few tries sometimes to get "connected" due to this shitty connection.
so i looked up on the interwebs how to hook up 360 to internet via WIRED (i have a 25ft cable) and the instructions seem like a pain in the ass!
im not the most computer literate person and i dont want to fuck up my connection to the wireless cause its used alot with our laptop (its used alot in many different rooms) next thing i know i wont have ANY internet to my PC or the laptop then im fucked!
why cant you just run and internet cable from the XBOX to the modem (or vice-versa) and have a connection.
i keep seeing i have to power off all the units (pc,modem, xbox)
switch wires from modem to pc then power up,then check the router, then power up xbox and check the IP address to get connected ....
its too confusing to me but it sucks that my wireless cant give a strong signal for me to get better than 40% connection availability.
i cant download **** without having to try 5-10 times and then on top of that it takes forever.
any suggestions?
can i do this without screwing up my current wireless/Pc/laptop setup?
i would only do the WIRED connection a few times when i DL games/updates/DLC content. i dont play online ever.
HELP ME!!! :crash:

The answer is yes, you can. Our pc's run off the wireless network while the 360 operates on a 75' cat-5 cable on direct connect to the modem.

Definitely possible, and fairly easy.

What model is your router?

like i said i looked up (google search) for hooking it up and alot of them have you checking IP addresses and other things,i just dont feel comfortable messing with settings and then screwing up everything else.

this is what i was going to use:
http://www.ehow.com/how_2268792_computers-wireless-internet-connection-xp.html

my question is...the pc,modem & wireless are in the "dining room area" on a computer table but my room is around the corner down the hall.
so this wouldn't be a full time hook-up,do i need to keep going into the settings to set it up or once it is set i can just turn everything off hook it up then repeat everytime i need to "go online"
UNLESS someone knows a way to make the signal strength better on my wireless short of going out to buy a new one or get the longer antenna. i really dont want to spend unnecessary money (that i dont have)
:dunno:

You should be able to just plug and play. I'm thinking if you're having issues, it's probably ISP related.

yea once you plug your xbox in directly to your internet connection, the auto detect settings should get you on live instantly.

do you think i should do what the link says that i posted above?
i have previously tried and nothing happened, just hooking up the wire to the wireless and to the xbox.i just didnt have them off when doing it.
i am stuck but somehow got LIMBO to DL even though it was stuck at 18% for about 20 minutes, so maybe my wireless isnt the best signal it just takes a few tries?

Limbo dl'd slowly for me too, and I was only checking out the trial...

yea it eventually worked and completely DL'd for me also.
im stuck on this wired or wireless setup. for the few times i DL stuff (i dont play games online i dont have $$ for gold membership) should i just go with the hit or miss of the XBOX wireless i currently have, some days its good others it is terrible.or should i try to see about this wired setup?

I used to have the WRT55AG or somthing like that back when xbox 1 was out and a little into the 360, and i hated it. Had many connection problems. But mind you I bought it off ebay used so I couldnt say if it was defected some how.

Anyway I purchased a NETGEAR wireless/wired router and never looked back.

I used everything on its default settings and worked perfectly how I wanted. Wired to xbox 360 and pc and wirelessly for any laptops around the house.
