Hawaii to become independent?

How dare the US spread things like human rights and freedom!

Meh, let em go. I've been to HI several times, it's not that great unless you're into surfing, Japanese tourists, $40 hamburgers and crystal meth.

Can we ship that parasite Barack back to them when they do? :1orglaugh Shouldn't that 'null and void' his citizenship, if it isn't already a forgery?

At this time I'd like to nominate Connecticut for independence. I represent the Connecticut for a Better Nation Party. Party of one. Seems like the cool thing to do now.

I'm all for Hawaiian independence as long as they get to keep Dog the Bounty Hunter there permanently. Now how the hell can we get rid of East St. Louis, Illinois?

:dunno:

Yes, they should. :hatsoff:

>>>>>missing a lot of reaction here for points that were well made. just a hatsoff to smooth things over.

I do not care. UN, NAFTA: Bob Dole said he wouldn't let it pass and people still vote for the "big two."

America shouldn't be in the UN and their embassy should be removed form American soil.

The currency could stay the same.

I just don't care.

i do not care? and rolleyes? that's a response? how could the currency stay the same? you raise these questions, then when things get tough you say you don't care? very clever. (no smiley face here)

Hawaii seems to be separate as is. They have their own health, education, government pretty much. In fact, most politicians use Hawaii as an example for Universal Health Care. Of course, these politicians fail to realize that Hawaii is smaller and isolated, they work within their amount of land and population, they can do that due to tourism from America, but also the world. They bring in money big time.

If they should separate themselves from North America, I wonder how long they would last financially. American tourism, especially now since so many are hindered by the economy, would be lacking. Money would dry up. All they would have financially is crystal meth dealers bringing in their untaxed money being pumped into the economy. But how far will that go, ultimately?

Thing is, it might seem great, especially given this whole anti-capitalist mentality many have taken on nowadays. In the end, Hawaii will just be overran by the drug cartels that prosper there and become nothing but a Mexico-like territory but in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. So it will be easier to cartel to Pacific Islanders, Asia, and Russia in human trafficking, drug trafficking, and other shady deals.

It will become a hellhole of great proportions.

It will be nothing but a island version of Mexico. Corrupt government, drug cartels, and poverty all around.

Take a look at it now. Drugs, human trafficking, and crime is already a problem. Just like Jamaica. Sure, the beaches look nice and it is fun to be around there in safe suites and protected beaches, but in the end, it is dangerous. Look at Aruba, too.

Take a risk when you go to Hawaii. Sad but true. Not a paradise, just a rich man's paradise.

You brought up the UN and NAFTA. I don't care what the UN says, ever.
NAFTA wasn't supposed to pass, according to Bob Dole.

Should be able to, maybe, but that doesn't mean they can...

If I remember correctly the last time a bunch of US states wanted to secede it ended in a war that lasted for 4 years...

Another war that shouldn't have happened. ;)

Hawai'i gets a lot of tourism from Japan. The Japanese own golf courses, homes...lots of stuff.

I don't think many Native Hawaiians would want to secede. They'd have to pay too much for their Spam. :dunno:

I've lived in Hawaii for about a year now. That artical pretty much somes up some of the local mentality. They want freedom but still reap the goods of being a US state. Case in point that everything here closes down "Statehood Day". How's that for wanting to be independent?

They're just bitter that the US took over their land. I feel their pain though.

(oh, I don't have any hawaiian blood in me - my parents are filipino)
