My friend and I used to walk around the neighborhoods at night, and if the curtains of a house/apartment were open, it was only natural to peer in.

Talk about fucking creepy. If you can see in someones window from your house or apartment that is one thing. But to drive or walk around and peek into peoples windows is just fucking creepy. If I ever caught someone on my property peeking into one of my windows I'd grab my *** and introduce myself.
