Have you ever had to give someone negative rep?

I think I've only given negative rep twice out of all the time I've been a member here. Just curious to see how often others are using the negative rep function.

I would say rarely. Usually only when someone is flaming. And occasionally if they bump an ancient thread for no good reason and don't even add anything to it.

Exactly! I have done that a few times. You write in your comment, and then the thing is set on positive as a default and I forget to change it!

Only once ! The subject appeared suicidal and was ranting very heavily.
Others were dog piling red gems, so in my normal lemming fashion, I followed.

It's a funny thing that neg rep, I almost feel as if I should clear it (notify) the perpetrator before we sneak money out of his wallet.
It's good to forgive, if at all possible.
