what the fuck you lookin at?
"The War on Terror" Was a convenient excuse to invade iraq and throw away countless american lives all over oil.

No we've not "won" this fake war, nor will we ever. So long as there's someone, somewhere who will profit off others deaths.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all against war. It is a necessary part of life. But only when it's something worth fuckin fighting over. Like freedom for example, which, btw, is slowly being taken away from us, BUT that's a whole different thread.

Too all the assheads who are taking this simple thread as an opportunity to bash America:

While I don't like the doctrine that makes us the world's police and I sure as hell hate the criticism we face, I did serve proudly with the Marine Corps and was involved in some shitty situations because of some assholes in Washington.

More often than not, we do good work around the world, bringing the American way of life to infidels, heathens, the oppressed and innocent bystanders whether they like it or not, all while having our Constitutional rights shelved in order to do so.

Without our help Europe would have either been part of the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany and I think may people conveniently forget that.

As far as the war on terrorism is concerned, no. We haven't won and probably never will. I still have to remove my shoes whenever I have to fly anywhere.
The american way of life?!? You can keep it!!

I feel this is really quite a shitty response to a pretty good and thoughtful post.

:2 cents:
Not really, because its the same old argument (WW2 etc). & the youtube clip sums up the aggressive militaristic viewpoint. The problem is the question, which typically excludes any other countries involvement in the so called 'war' on terror. Why? Because the good old US 0f A wants to be the world's police, wants to export what it believes is the right way to live. & it often attempts to do this through militaristic means & of course for self-interest rather than any altruistic intentions.

While I understand what you are saying, I think it is important to note that we had a president, a shitty president, that "officially" declared war on terror 10 years ago. If the administration is going to use language like that, periodic evaluation of the progress, using the same type of language, is appropriate.

I don't believe that johnnystyro belives that there are no other countries involved, nor do I believe it was simple-minded as the arguments that the US won WWII are.

Not really, because Will E. Worm (WW2) is still terrorizing internet message boards. :1orglaugh

It isn't a war on terror or a war on militant Islamists. It's a war on anybody who opposes American and Israeli policies, amongst other things. It's basically just a war to reshape the middle east and some other places to better favor American/Israeli imperial interests, with 9/11 being cynically used as the justification.

As it's going, the plans aren't really succeeding.

Some of you Americans really need to stop leeching on what you grandfathers and mothers did. By trying to take credit for what they did you dishonour their legacy and what they fought for.

On topic, America will never win the "war on terror". It's focussing too much on terrorists and not enough on the young generation of Muslims who continue to be radicalized by amongst other things America's foreign policy. If you look @ Egypt for example you can now see a new, young generation of Muslims who want something else. They see Arab politics have been failing for decades and they want a better life for themselves and their (future)children. It's this generation America should be reaching out to and help them shape their future without trying to force the American way of life on them. It's this generation of Muslims who are their greatest allies in the fight against terrorism.

For the most part, yes. Al-Qaeda has been dismantled for the most part. Their ability to finance splinter cells has been hampered by communication monitoring and freezing the patrons of terror’s assets. Their ideology is no longer appealing to many younger Muslims. “The Arab Spring” is proof that more people in the Arab world are interested in being participants in the world community.

With that said, there are still terrorists and extremists. There always will be.

Absolutely not, and it will never be won.
For those who are foolish enough to think that the elimination of Islamist extremists will end this, they are unable to see the large picture. Domestic terrorism in the KKK, skinheads, Black Panthers, the Weather Underground, the May 19th Communist Organization, Army of God, Aryan Nation, Phineas Priesthood, ELF, CSA continues to exist, and for each organization which is "defeated", others take their places.
However, it is not just groups - even more dangerous are much smaller groups, or individuals such as Timothy McVeigh, the UniBomber, the anthrax mailer, the McNamara brothers, Andrew Kehoe, Nidal Malik Hasan and Andrew Joseph Stack.
These groups and individuals, of course, are just in the U.S. Should our country decide that we are going to be the terrorism police, imagine trying to find every terrorism organization, large or small, in every country - not to mention every individual nutjob who has a beef with "society".

However, we did succeed in one aspect of terrorism in the Middle East, and that was to provide an ample training ground. By spending a lot of time in the region and by having absolutely no clue as to what we were doing in the region - let alone the native customs. Not only did we help energize already existing terrorism organizations in the region, but after a few civilian casualties here and there, we have helped create a whole new breed of people pissed at the U.S. for fucking up their lives.
Way to go, George! That is your permanent mark on history, right there. I'm very sure you are proud of yourself.

I admit the bait is too tempting...

Boothy...what have you done lately (besides talking down the descendents of those who helped rescue your forefathers from the Nazis)?

Re: Has America Won The War On Terror?

There is no war on terror! The whole thing was a plot created by george bush, dick cheney, donald rumsfeld, black ops, halliburton and the dept of defense contractors.... ''BUSH KNEW!'':cussing:

Taking down the descendants?!? So we are not allowed to critique you lot because of what your grandparents did!?!?

I never made that case.:2 cents:

I asked what had this specific person done lately besides criticize the descendents (and country) who's forefathers helped to save theirs. Since they're always critical of what we may or may not have done lately.

It's all a lark for me because I know Boothy just has penis envy of US.:o

it can't be won; it's not even meant to be won ... it's an excuse to erode our civil liberties and declare war on countries the USA considers as unconstitutional/ despotic/.
