Hardest sport to referee?

I got to go with the NBA as well.

You can argue that 2 games have been decided by the refs in the Eastern Conference Finals.

No ridicule. Care explaining though?

From appearances it seems a lot of job for reffing soccer and it's rules are subjective rather than clearly defined. Sort of like how determining whether a block or charge happens in basketball except that applies to more issues in soccer and what you are supposed to apply to figure it out is even vaguer. At least that what it seem to me.

I could see where basketball would be hardest, but there are plenty of difficulties involved in refereeing any sport. But if I had to pick one, its tennis. This being due to the referee having to follow a ball traveling at ridiculous speeds back and forth.

Im goi g to say basketball and hockey.
Basketball cause some of the rules are just so confusing that even refs dont understand them. The diff between a charge and a block for example, but mostly the old ******* defense rule thats been long done away with. Traveling is a ********* often missed by refs in basketball for some reason.
Hockey becayse the game moves so fast and you have to be keeping a lookout for the puck and for rule violations on other parts of the ice. All that in such a fast game. Hockey is fun to watch but it can sometimes be hard to keep up with.

How hard can it be to ref an NBA game? Just let the "Superstars" do whatever they want and if "just another player" actually tries to guard them, call a foul.

Soccer is one of the toughest sports to officiate. You have three officials but the main referee has the toughest job because he has to watch over 22 players on a field that is way bigger than a football field and has to follow the ball wherever it goes so he has to be in really good shape to cover the whole field. Compare that to football, where you have five refs and have stoppage after almost every play, in soccer there is no stoppage of play. In addition, soccer rules are open for interpretation. And depending on the ref for the match, you might have a close game or a wide open game called. Refs who played seem to call a looser match.

One of my peeves from years past was with superstars never getting called fouls like they should. Part of it you can blame on Micheal Jordan, the pampered treatment of superstars started with him. I will say the push on Bryan Russel was the best no-call, i liked that the refs let it go. Most other no-calls save for the ones at the end of games do bother me tho.

Soccer......go ahead, ridicule me
In fact, you're right :
22 guys
120 x 80 yds pitch
2 x 45 minutes
15 minutes half- time breeak
1 Referee
2 Assistant referees outside of the pitch, one on the left, one on the right
Referee can't use instant replays.

Soccer has lots of refereeing mistakes, even in the greatests competitions such as the World Cup, the Euro (European nations championship) or the UEFA Champion's League. But, someway, part of the fans are happy with that. They say it keeps the game "human", they say it's part of the fun of the game, to argue with your friends "No it wasn't penalty, this ref. is fucking blind", "Yes it was !", they say since every team is refered the same way, every team is sometimes victim, sometimes benefiting referees mistakes so in the end no one it's fair...

I can see soccer being hardest.

I'm going to say hockey, though. Those guys have to keep track of player substitutions on the fly, number of players on the ice, and so forth, AND they have to skate the entire game. The players get line changes, the refs don't. I know they skate less than the players do, but they need to haul ass up and down the ice a lot, and they have to do so with their heads up, counting players, while keeping track of the location of the puck.

The NBA is incredibly easy to referee. Let the big name guys do whatever they want, and overall, don't call anything unless it's obvious or on one of the above stars.

Hard to ref? Pee wee basketball.

I think I have to agree with much of this. :2 cents:

I heard some TV announcer say that one of the main reasons the NHL implemented the second ref a few years ago was because when they had just one, he skated an average of 7 miles per game. That on top of keeping an eye on 12 players moving a lot faster than the players of any other major sport. I'm giving it to the NHL refs as well.

At least in hockey the rules seem more defined. I think in soccer they just as often go with gut feelings as often as they do with hard coded rules. It would incredibly irritate me if I played or watched the sport.
