Halo Reach

I didnt see a thread for it anywhere, so I thought I would start one off.

I saw the new trailer for it today and it confused me a little. Looks like Noble Team isn't part of the master chiefs original group. They appear to be the Spartan III program, which is a bit of a disapointment since the book "Fall of Reach" and "First Strike" explore what happened to the ground forces of the chiefs team that were sent down to protect the planets assets.

Aside from the dose of uber geekiness on my part, what does everyone else think about it?

Looks awesome, but I don't know just yet. I'm downloading the beta at the moment, only took 10 minutes to get to 2%

It doesn't look much different than halo 3 multi-player wise but I haven't played the beta yet so i can't really judge it just yet.

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
Gonna wait and talk to the guys I work with after it actually comes out. If its good they'll let me know. If it sucks, they'll let me know that too...

I don't hold out much hope since Halo 3 was halo 2 all over again. And ODST wasn't shit

It better not be shit, Ive got the legendary edition pre-ordered already!

halo has been shit to date. I don't hold much hope for this one, but I've heard good things so I dunno...

Depends on what you mean by "shit", I know some elements of the game have been questionable, but Im loving the story. I have all the books and they are actually really good, Ive only read the first 3 that are based around the game and they were really good, I believe they are generally accepted as the canon for the games.

I was disapointed the books wont influence the game though, it would have made a nice surprise to discover some of the chiefs family alive and well. But of couse, had they survived wed have seen them at the end of halo 3....

The trailer for Reach was excellent, (The orbit view of reach with the voice over), the second which had the introduction of your character bugged me a fair bit. It seemed like a lot of hype over nothing. Has anyone seen the newest one with the soldier being turned into a spartan III?

i really like the Halo single player experience, but these days the multiplayer really doesn't do too much for me.

i tried the Reach beta and just couldn't get into it at all. its too old school. i felt like i was playing a pc game from the early 2000s or something.

you still can't aim down the sight ...your default rifle is horribly weak and takes at least the whole clip to kill someone. you still can't run like you can in almost every shooter that's been made over the last few years. you don't take damage from falling from heights. everyone still just runs around and throws granades at everyone's feet hoping to get a kill that way because half the guns are weak as hell. they're so weak that after unloading your whole clip into someone you basically have to finish your them off with a melee attack ...same as usual.

its the same old shit except for one special ability per loadout:

1 guy has the ability to sprint short distances (this is something everyone should be able to do by default, imo. i guess Bungie feels that running should be a special ability that far ahead in the future)

1 guy has a jet pack that allows him to fly short distances.

1 guy has the ability to turn almost completely invisible.

1 guy has the abiltity to put a force shield around him for a short time ...but he can't move at all with it on.

the graphics aren't even all that much better than what i remember in Halo 3. seems pretty much the same ...unless they're holding back on the really good stuff for now.

boring game anyway. i would have probably enjoyed the multiplayer 5 or so years ago ...but by todays standards, its very dated.

Keep in mind it is still halo you are talking about, the multiplayer probably wont differ that much in game play from what you know from the previous games. If you want a game that plays like MW2, then go play MW2.

From what Ive seen of the single player graphics it looks really good, I cant get on live for the beta demo, so Im gonna have to wait til I get the game to make an informed opinion.

so i guess its not good for a series to evolve?

i don't really care for MW2 either, but sure i'd rather play that over Halo.

i'll stick to Killzone 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, COD4 and Left 4 Dead 2 for my shooters of choice.

too bad that Bungie doesn't want to bring things a little more up to date. they wont be getting my money anymore.

A series can evolve, but all to often when a series changes to dramatically the fans piss and moan about it changing and then they have to go back.

I dont like the multiplayer on halo, havent liked it since halo 2, mainly because of the ratio of under 12's playing it made me feel even more like an internet predator!

Hell I used to love MW2 until it became the same grenade throwing, camping, whiny underage play ground.

Just played a bit more of the beta and all I can say is that the game SUCKS if you aren't in a party. So many idiots and all of the guns are underpowered to do well alone. Invasion is a joke if nobody has a mic, its nearly impossible to attack with randoms.

I played the beta a few days ago and even though halo isn't me thing I thought it was BRILLIANT specialy after the disapointment of mw2

I liked Halo 1 and 2 for the campaigns. Halo 3 was pretty good but alittle disappointing. I could never get into Halo's multiplayer though. For multiplayer, I'm more of a realistic military shooter type player...Call of duty, Ghost Recon or even Uncharted cause its realistic.

concerning Halo not changing,

the series is a tried and true formula. If any drastic changes are made, than you may as well start a new franchise (like FF13 should have done). Alot of people complain about Halo having a slower pace, floaty jumps, unrealistic damage (it is sci-fi shooter btw), but that is what the game is. Look at it those negatives another way, slow pace means you can actually aim, floaty jumps negates the bunny hop technique of old times etc. Basically, it is what it is. Why knock Halo for not being UT3 Black, when you can just go play UT3 Black.

Look at StarCraft2. Its the same game. The formula was not broken, so there is no reason to make any drastic changes.
