I heard that Halo was converted to PS2 years ago and that due to the hardware of the machine, the game played so badly it was cancelled.

I highly doubt that . Ever since they have made the first Halo bungie has been owned by microsoft .

The story goes like this, Xbox had Halo, PS2 had Grand Theft Auto. They struck some kind of deal, a swapover! GTA III & Vice City (PS2 exclusives) were released on Xbox, and the Master Chief headed for the PS2, unfortunately the PS2 couldn't handle Halo - even in the dumbed down version, how Microsoft made it up the PS, I have no idea.

It's why I never bothered with PS2, can't play Halo, Doom 3, Butcher Bay....

halo would never be on a sony machine. as said before- microsoft owns bungie. bungie developed halo, halo2, and now halo 3(and owns the right to the franchise). sony on the other hand does NOT own GTA. That is the property of take 2 and/or rockstar. Thus, there could never be a deal to "trade" off the games to other systems.
On topic- I can't wait for Halo 3. Online is gonna rock.
