I found it more and more a waste of time and energy to try to reason with persons who are deeply into weapons.

Even reasoning why I find this is a waste of time. They are like, addicted, and they will not loose that addiction, especially not by us reasoning.

I own guns but I am 100% in favor of EVERY gun being registered and anyone with a gun requiring a license. If you say its unconstitutional then I guess owning a car or a boat or a motorcycle is also right? I am also in favor of requiring showing said license when purchasing ammunition. There should also be age requirements on purchasing guns. If you can't buy cigarettes or beer or a porn magazine why the fuck are you able to buy a gun? Background checks should be required for ALL sales of guns. Gun show vendors should be required to have a license to sell and require background checks and license to purchase.

I am unable to figure out what would be the reason anyone who wants to keep the guns away from bad guys would oppose these things? Other than gun makers of course. Its like legalizing weed. A guy selling bags of weed aren't going to give a fuck how old the person buying it is, but a legal weed dispensary will. Its the same thing. Why is this so hard to get done?

Guns do not kill, but people with a gun can kill.

Perhaps the gun addicts are also power addicts and when you own a gun you have a cartain kind of power.

Many people owns guns and I quess the most common reason is that people are afraid of something.

Something is wrong with society if people are afraid to go to store without a weapon.

This is an American thing so I'm biased to say anything.

Generally speaking: people should know how the weapons are used and how they must be stored before they acquire them.

I have guns because I have weirdos who think because I did porn I am a fuck robot and will fuck anyone who rings the doorbell.

I also have to deal with religious loonies who think I don't deserve to live. I have it for protection, period. I don't hunt and I don't shoot for sport.

I quess that all people do not understand that porn is just entertainment and people who produce it do not have sex any more than "ordinary" people.

True religious people do not want harm anyone.

You have a real reason to own a gun if you have to fear for your personal safety.

Didn't you say you had an AK47, that was originally semi auto, but a "guy you know" converted it to full auto for you?

Damn....I sure hope not. No one needs a gun like that except the military. You want a gun for home protection? A shotgun is the way to go. I recommend the Mossberg Pump 500 Tactical for ease of use (it has a nice pistol grip that just feels right), firepower (it holds six 12-gauge shells) and effectiveness. Chances are you'll never even need to use it. Any approaching bad guys damn-sure know what that "chu-chuk" sound means and will likely beat feet in a hurry once they hear it. If they don't, well, they're really, really stupid.

I don't ever really want to kill anybody....I just want the bad guys to leave me alone. Same reason I have a dog. Chances are somebody's gonna end up getting killed if you put your finger on the trigger of a fully-automatic military weapon.

If you train your dog on how to use your gun you won't have to kill anybody

Hundreds of thousands of Americans own legal, fully automatic weapons. Yet I can't recall the last time one was used in a crime. Tens of thousands of Americans own Bumpski and Slidefire stocks for their ARs and AKMs. They mimic the cycling rate of their full-auto M16 and AK47/74 counterparts and are fully legal, as says the ATF. Yet none have been used in crimes.

Millions of Americans on AR15s, AK variants, UZIs, Galils, AUGs, CETMES, FALs, PS90s, MAC clones, etc, etc. And these guns are used in less that 200 illegal homicides a year.

Almost everybody who owns a full-auto Class III machine gun owns one because they are fun and they collect firearms, not because they're preparing for race riots or the zombie apocalypse. It's easy to look at military-style weapons and deem them scary and, therefor, restricted and only owned by "nuts," but if you're going to be the victim of a violent crime, there's a very, very small chance that it'll be from anything other than a cheap handgun.

Who made up that rule? Since when is religion synonymous with pacifism?

You don't need a license to buy a car or motorcycle. Hell, you don't even need a license to insure them. You need a license to drive them on the streets. Just like, in most states, you need a permit to carry a concealed firearm in public.

Besides, what do cars have to do with The Constitution? There is no Constitutional Amendment protecting the right to own a vehicle.

Very true, and an insightful, well thought out post. Extra points for mentioning the Galil, and the FAL's.

A sword won't fit in my holster, that's why I carry a Sig....and self preservation isn't a sin, and if you have ANY common sense whatsoever, it better be an instinct you possess.

You know Jag, I never thought I would pull this line on you, but you leave me no choice....

Last time I checked, it wasn't called the bill of needs.

I disagree on a shotgun for home protection, I like a .380, or a .38 with some weak loads, to avoid over travel, but if it's a shotgun, I prefer the Remington 700...same sound, but I like a standard police shotgun over the pistol grip. Personal preference is all. Hell, a nice little "coach gun" does the trick too. The fact is, anyone with an automatic weapon in their collection, has it stored away, and would NEVER use it for defense. First off, they suck for home protection, and more importantly, they cost a fortune, and are almost impossible to replace, not to mention most are rifle calibers.

Hey, to each his own. At the heart of the reason I like a shotgun is based on it's ability to spray a wide pattern so you can take out multiple intruders with one shot and the fact that it is a very forgiving gun. You don't need to be a crack shot to be extremely effective with it. Besides, at my age, the pistol grip is simply easier to handle and is more comfortable in my view. Otherwise, my point was, like yours, that an automatic assault rifle like an AK47 is not the best choice for home protection.

Actually, the Ak47 is one of best rifles ever made, mainly because it's simple, and oddly, because the tolerances in the machining are so sloppy, it's almost impossible to jamb. The fucking things eat almost any ammo, especially that steel cased lacquer coated primer shit, I would NEVER put into my crappiest gun, if it were the end of days. But the truth is, all an AK is good for, is house to house fighting. The round it fires, is about the same performance wise, as the common U.S. 30/30 rifle, many people use for deer hunting. After 100 yards, it drops significantly enough, to be almost useless. That's why, in 1974, they came out with the AK74, which fires a round closer to the AR15. If you lived in the country, on a nice big plot of land, with your nearest neighbor a 3/4 mile up the road, an AK47 would be a good weapon for household protection!

I own ARs and AKs. I'm a big shooter, so they're really fun guns for me. I'd never use them for home protection though. Shotguns are great, but really, even a shotgun with an 18.5" barrel isn't gonna throw a huge pattern in the proximity of most homes. So you're not going to be hitting multiple intruders with one round of 00 buck. But still, you can't go wrong with a 500 or 870.

Personally, I keep my XDm in .45 by my nightstand. I use heavy 230 grain Federal HST for defense. They're heavy and relatively slow and will begin to deform the second they hit something hard. So they're much less likely to overtravel than something like 7.62 x 39 or 5.56.

However, there are AR15s in pistol calibers. Everything from. 22lr to .45. And there are AKs in 9mm. Like the new AKX-9.

My Arsenal SGL-21 has put some respectable groups on paper at 200 yards. Using an Aimpoint red dot. Obviously they're not MOA groups, but still not bad for what it is. My WASR-10? Not so much. It was the first AK I bought after the AW Ban ended in '04 and I put it through hell and it still performs perfectly. But the accuracy is limited considerably...compared the Arsenal. WARs get a lot of shit, but I've really enjoyed the one I bought.

Aim Surplus is selling a Century Arms 100% US made RPK with a thousand rounds of 7.62 x 39 for $1,000. I'm tempted to pick one up just because I never imagined I'd ever see a US made RPK in my life. Semi-auto RPKs feel a little gimmicky to me, but it's still a cool thing have for the range.
