So who won between Deep Puple and Def Leppard?
Purple

Are you sure? It seems that the results of Pearl Jam and the Police, were put in there... Pearl Jam. :dunno: A blank space was in there, though eventually Guns N' Roses won the "regional" losing to the Who in the "quarterfinals"?

Well Baill? How did that battle of the bands go between Deep Purple and Def Leppard?

persona non grata
"They rock" is not a valid argument for Moterhead.

Arguments against Moterhead:
• Excessive volume is not musical talent
• They were no better than 5th or 6th best band in that genre
• Is that a motorcycle revving its engine or a guitar?
• Is protesting against nothing really a valid protest?
• Isn’t there some sort of cream to get rid of warts?
• They haven’t been relevant in 20 years.
This is complete bullshit.

Motörhead, along with bands like The Stooges and MC5 were bands that made rock music that sounds the way rock music was supposed to sound (you know, the thunder of Link Wray and early Elvis (this isn´t anything you would understand considering all the crappy pop bands you seem to think play rock music)). Also, i have no idea what genre you think that Motörhead belong to, the only genre they belong to is "rock n´roll that´s so fucking awesome that the teen pop crap and overproduced, annoying progressive rock that were on the charts in the late 70´s and early 80´s crawls away and hides in the corner".

Protesting? What the fuck are you talking about? If you want protest bands you should put all those whiny folk music bands from the 60´s on the list.

The warts comment is just so ridiculous that it doesn´t even deserve an answer. This is rock n´ roll we´re talking about, not some fucking beauty pageant.

What other band on the list have been relevant in the last 20 years? The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles? Please. I can guarantee that every single punk rock or high energy rock band over the past 30 years have been a whole lot more influenced by Motörhead than bands like Led Zeppelin, Rush, or any of the other horrible arena rock bands on the list.

How anyone could even come up with the idea to put bands like Journey, Cheap Trick, Def Leppard and Duran Duran on a list over the best rock bands of all time is just so bizarre that it´s not even funny.

Oh, and it´s Motörhead, not Moterhead.

If you are talking about alternative music, indie or post-punk, yes, I would vote The Velvet Underground, MC5, Wire, Television, Talking Heads, Ramones, The Stooges, Gang of 4, PIL, Joy Division, The Damned, Sex Pistols and even the The Clash who made it deep in the contest much, much more influential.

However, in all the biographies and books about 76-79 punk or 79-83 post-punk Motörhead is seldom mentioned. Not saying the current bands like Foo Fighters, System of a Down, Queens of The Stone Age or Green Day, etc. are not big fans. But i think in the rock n roll tree of Motörhead more extends to the heavy metal or hard rock limb. Punk was all about throwing away
70's hard and progressive rock. Todays music is a different story.

dont want to take anything away from them, since they are legendary band.

The Beatles or Rolling Stones just have the mantel on rock history even till today, IMHO. Few bands or music fans will deny there overall influence.

Many d-beat and crust punk bands is influenced by Motörhead.

I disagree with Led Zeppelin being number 1; but that has nothing to do with The Rolling Stones

I don't like it; but not for the reason most may think.

The subject is "Greatest Rock Band"; and it's entirely subject to opinion.

...but even Keith Richards will tell you that The Rolling Stones are not a "rock" band.

What they are is The Worlds' Greatest Rock and Roll Band.

To understand the difference; ask yourself this question:

Whatever happened to the roll,anyway?

Jesus man! Yes, that's the whole fucking point is ITS A MATTER OPINON AND SUBJECTIVE!

and the fucking bracket says: GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND
