I'm a big fan of Gretzky, especially now that he is even more active for the Coyotes. After him comes Pittsburg's Mario Lemieux, just an amazing player.
I also feel that Coyotes Captain, Shane Doan, has a lot of potential to be one of the best.

Forgot to mention, IMO, the best goalie: Cujo, Curtis Joseph.

Of all time--I would put Bobby Orr just behind Gretzky--Orr played before My time,but I have seen many games with Him on tape---there will never be a scoring defenseman like Him .------Bruins #4

Best goalie: Patrick Roy {obviously}
Gretz was amazing with his ability to see on the ICE, But I personally feel that he racked up most of his points at a time when the goaltending was a little to easy, the butterfly didnt come in until Roy. If I had to give it to someone I would say Forsberg but he cant keep from getting injured. Sakic is amazing but no physical presence. Alfredson is amazing along with Naslund, Heatley is also really starting to come into his own. {my 2 cents}

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Gretzky is the obvious choice for #1 so here's my top ten:

1) Wayne Gretzky - the great one, what else needs to be said
2) Gordie Howe - Longevity and records make him an easy choice
3) Mario Lemieux - The total package, can do it all
4) Bobby Orr - Capable of taking over a game by himself
5) Patrick Roy - Greatest clutch goaltender of all time
6) Phil Esposito - Quintessential power forward with a great shot
7) Maurice Richard - The "Rocket" was a scoring machine in his day
8) Larry Robinson - Maybe the best "defensive" defenseman ever
9) Marcel Dionne - The definition of what a centericeman should be
10) Bobby Hull - The "Golden Jet" set goal-scoring record that lasted years

i met the great one ...i was on hte plane coming back from paris...great guy...really nice, got his signature :)
Richard brother were good too...no1 will match #99 tho

11 Should be Mark Messier for his leadership and play
12---Steve Yzerman a true pro and an icon in Hockey town
13---Ray Bourque. An offensive defenseman ahead of his time
14---Paul Coffey- A power-play god in his career
15---Dominic hasek- Best big game goalie maybe of all time

wow, this is honestly a great list my friend.

orr was good, dont get me wrong, but i would put 7 and 9 before orr, simply because orr did not play enough years

Being from Pittsburgh, my choice is obviously Mario Lemieux. In French, Lemieux means "the best". The only reason why Gretzky has all the records is when he played, no one was allowed to touch him. He never had any injuries or illnesses. Lemieux was harasses all the time, plus had cancer and a bad back and he still was a threat. That's the only reason why he never broke the records.

#99 without a doubt. His vision on the ice was just unbelievable. How he knew where his teamates were at all times and how he got them the puck still blows my mind

Stevie Y, my favorite player. It's going to be a sad day for me when he retires as I've been following him since kindergarden

Either Mario or Gretzky obviously. But one day I believe it will be Sidney Crosby. He's got more moves than Mae West (just like Mario), Incredible strength and balance (just like Jagr and Forsberg), and the ability to make passes to guys so wide open that no one else even knew they were on the ice (like no one else I've ever seen).

I truly believe that in a couple of years he will be easily regarded as one of the best 3 of all time (along with Gretzky and Lemieux) if not the best.

Mess is my favorite player of all time. i loved how everyone knocked him for not being able to win the cup without Gretzky, but then he won another in edmonton and then brought the rangers their first cup in like 50 years.

Gretzky was the best ever, i don't think there should be much argument there. Lemieux is great, don't get me wrong, but he's no Gretzky. think about how many goals The Great One has and he played on those stacked Oilers teams where almost everyone on the ice was a goal scoring threat.

wow, this is my first post in like 4 months.

Hawerchuck wasn't a defenceman

Put Ray Bourque or Paul Coffey instead... ;)
