Kareem Abdul Jabbar is the greatest player to ever play basketball, therefor the greatest center of all time. 6 MVP's. 6 Titles. More points than anybody. Ever. 3rd most blocks in NBA history. (And blocks weren't recorded for his first 4 seasons)

How the fuck does he only have 2 votes? The only two players that should be getting any votes are Kareem and The Dream. Nobody else on that list has their game. Not even close. Who the fuck voted for Snaq???

Sky Hook and The Dream Shake are the greatest moves in the history of sports.

Unfortunately, I never got to see Chamberlain or Russell play. From what I've heard, Wilt was the king of offensive big men, and Russell dominated the defensive side.

It also would have been nice to have seen Alcindor play when he was young. Sadly, I never saw him until he was "Kareem", an old, balding guy who was probably just a shell of his former self.

Having said that, I think the two most complete centers I ever saw were Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O'Neal. Shaq was more dominant, just because of his incredible size, but if I had to choose one, I think I'd go with Olajuwon. He was so good on defense, and his footwork on offense is second to none.

Here is the first part of Bill Russell's Bio from wiki...
A five-time winner of the NBA Most Valuable Player Award and a twelve-time All-Star, Russell was the centerpiece of the Celtics dynasty that won eleven NBA Championships during Russell's thirteen-year career . Along with Henri Richard of the National Hockey League's Montreal Canadiens, Russell holds the record for the most championships won by an athlete in a North American sports league. Before his professional career, Russell led the University of San Francisco to two consecutive NCAA championships (1955, 1956). He also won a gold medal at the 1956 Summer Olympics as captain of the U.S. national basketball team.[1]

Simply put, nobody's resume looks like this.

The most skillful Center was the bruins douchebag formerly known as Lew Alicindor.

While Russell was a great player and he played on better teams, and that's why he has the most rings, but Wilt is the most dominating center to ever play the game.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Purely as a center, I go with Wilt though one could make arguments for Bill Russell, Kareem, Shaq and Olajuwon. What about Moses Malone? I think of him being a way better center than Willis Reed, The Admiral or Patrick Ewing.

Wilt Chamberlain. But Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a very close #2

Among the guys actually ctive, I would say Pau Gasol is the best for now.

Man, this was a tough list. Kudos to whoever put it together. I narrowed it down to Kareem and Bill Russel. Anytime anyone makes up a rule because you are just being too damn dominate and then names that rule using your name, from that day forth, you and everyone else know that you are the baddest motherfucker on the court. With that said, I gotta go with Kareem.

When determining whose best, it's important to also make note of all of the ''intangibles'' that a C has to offer his team e.g. √ Does he have a good instinct with respect to where his players are when his back is turned? √ Does he leave himself good split second options in the face of extreme defenses, and do those second options commonly draw fouls which, in turn convert to 2, or better, 3 point conversions? √ Does he consistently set good screens in the paint? √ Does he have a superb attitude and work ethic? (makes the coaches job easier so that coach can spend more time fine tuning 7 - thru 12 on the bench) and it goes on and on . . .

To be honest, in good conscience, I can't really make a choice in the poll knowing what little I know about the NBA's elder Centers, I mean, you have to sit down and watch a lot of ball (archives or whatever) in order to properly assess just whose best . . .unless of course, we base our choices solely on a statistical basis . .
