Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Kudos to Bloodshott Scott for giving me this idea. What's the greatest band ever to come from the good ol' USA??

I say it's The Doors. What do you say?

Honorable mention to Bad Company.

The Eagles. There's three generations of fans in my extended family.
The music of the Eagles crosses over into both country and rock genres.... this gives their music a wider appeal than bands that cater to a specific market. :2 cents:

All good choices in the poll though

My favourite would be Metallica and REM, but when I think 'American band', I think of Lineyard Skineyard.

Since the poll didn't specify "Rock Band", I'll say "Other" and go with Glenn Miller, from the 1940s Big Band era.

The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
The Beatles.

Ha, just kidding. Aerosmith.

OK Sam....point established. Clarification: the best American rock band.

the Allman Brothers

Jag - Bad Company was a Brit band.

 Jeez....what a dope I am! Of course they are (Paul Rodgers?? C'mon Jag!!) My bad (company) :D....well at least they play like an American band! I meant to say Steely Dan anyway.

Ah yes! Ok had you included Steely Dan I'd have voted for them :glugglug:

That's a tough one. I'd say Aerosmith but I have never in my life purchased an album and honestly Dream On is probably the only song of them I would go out of my way to spin.

My favorite: Toss up between the Doors and Metallica. As I stated in the other thread, Lynyrd Skynyrd could be made an argument for. They really are about as American as it gets. Fleetwood Mac was pretty big. Obviously the Eagles have had an incredible longevity.

I would probably say the most profound band (in other words, "Greatest") was probably R.E.M.

Still can't say I was a huge fan of them but I do have several of their discs from Goodwill I picked up.

What about KISS? I know they are basically a brand, but (to a certain degree) so are the Stones or the Beatles. And I bet you would rank those two as one of UK's best!
So I'm going with KISS. Most of the music isn't half bad, they came up with new ideas at the time, shocking in many ways, and they're still putting on a great show even if it's not the original line-up.
