Government Spending And The Economy

An interesting take on government spending vs. the economy.
I have always been an advocate of intelligent government spending and the betterment of the economy. Intelligent being the key word. Spending which ensures a healthy workforce, a well educated workforce and one which encourages job growth and businesses to invest in its employees would be intelligent spending. The invasion of a couple of other countries or tax breaks to people already getting historic tax breaks would be poor spending.
It is the nature of a well funded and well run government to cycle its money. Money which goes into that government goes back out to the people in jobs, new roads/bridges/parks, better education, better health care, better police/fire/emergency, better disaster response...the list goes on (at least in a well-run government. In a poorly run government, billions which goes into making sure some people cannot get married). In recent years, as the article discusses, a lot of money going into business stays in that business.
One reason is that a lot of that money spent on a business does not stay in the country. Look at what you buy, look where it is manufactured. Remember, however, that most of that money is not going to the workers in China...it is going into the pockets of the CEO who is outsourcing those jobs. Look at where you buy - again, the vast majority of that money you are spending in a Walmart or a Home Depot are not going to the employees, it is going to the "job makers" who are assuring that there are fewer and fewer full-time jobs available on the market. Ironically, one of the few areas in which full-jobs are almost assured are government-related jobs.

This was one of the dangers of putting those uneducated in the ways of the economy and the government's roll, aka the tea party, Paul Ryan, Ron Paul, et al.
