Gotham Rests Easy, Now That Batkid Has Saved The Day

It was all the buzz all over town today. When I got to work there were helicopters circling over Union Square, where I guess the *** rescued a girl from the cable car tracks, and when I went to lunch I saw tons of people dressed in black (I'm guessing they were part of the flash mob at Civic Center) with Batkid Authentic Fan signs. I wanted to go watch part of it, but I was working during the event.

I remember reading a story similar to this a few years ago. It took me a while to find it. Boy with cancer becomes superhero

It's nice when people can band together to bring joy to a sick *****, despite their differences of opinion or the country's state of affairs.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
I wish there were more stories in the news like this... restores a little of my faith in humanity.

*** didn't want to meet an athlete or a *********. He wanted to spend the day helping people. That's fucking awesome.

That *** is a fucking champ, it's awesome that people are willing to band together and go so far out of their way to give a sick *** the awesomest day of his life. Plus he got to ride around in a Lambo all day.

Bears For Life
It's amazing how many people were involved in this to make this the best fucking day for this ***! So much money is spend for stupid things that doesn't help other people so it's great to see something different once.

It's sad though that this only really was for one ***. That this isn't done for all deathly ill ****. And there are so fucking many **** out there that are not deathly ill, but still have no joy, but only "pain" in life that live in poverty or are being *****d or whatever. Why isn't something like this being made for them as well?

Anyway this was amazing and really great to read for a change. :)

This is indeed fucking awesome! :yesyes:

Its just great with all the horrible things going on the world, its great to see a whole city come together to give batkid an awesome day.

It's nice to see things like this.

...Then again, often in a sad bit of irony some of the people that will go out of there way to do things like this for somebody or think it's good are also the same people that will bitch if they have to sacrifice a little to give a wide swath of people things like good health care, good educations, or jobs that they can make a living wage off of.

I think it's easier for people to do "throw a bone" to somebody situations than to go through true sacrifice for others. It's easier and allows them to pat themselves on the back while ignoring all the things they do that make the world a worse place.

Still, things like this are good to see, and I'm glad they can be done when reasonable.

The *** was in remission and looked healthy as can be. Why not spend that money and do it for a ***** that is further along in his/her terminal illness? I wonder how "HE" was selected as the recipient when their are thousands of other *****ren in worse shape than he is.

Make a Wish works with many *****ren, both terminal and non-terminal. Many of the things they do never make the news. My ****** wanted to see Disney World, they provided lodging and a specialized van for transportation. She is unable to fly due to severe Osteogenesis Imperfecta (brittle bone disease). The weight of her own body causes the bones in her hips, legs, and feet to break. She is not terminal, but has had over twenty surgeries implanting metal rods by the age of ten. They come through for many *****ren this one just happened to make the news.

Maybe I'm the bad person here for feeling that the Tens of thousands +(at least) would have been better spent helping multiple *****ren, not just one. What to really help a *****? How about taking some of those funds and help them out with expensive treatments many families cannot afford? Their is a big difference between going to Disney World and having an entire city block shut down while you ride around in a Lamborgini. And why was taxpayer funded police helicopters and personnel used? I'm glad the GOV has all this surplus taxpayer money to blow on nothing when their are so many more important things those funds could have been allocated for such as school upgrades just to name one.

Not everyone can do everything. Make a Wish specifically does things to help **** with terminal illnesses fulfill dreams that they would otherwise not have been able to fulfill. You want free medical care for **** with burns, spinal injuries, or severe disfigurement? Try the Shriners Hospitals. They provide completely free medical care for any of the conditions I mentioned for **** under the age of 18 regardless of the ******'s financial ability. They not only treat ****, but they provide counseling both for the *** and the ****** on how to deal with the condition and how to live life with the aftermath of it.

And then there's the argument that this expensive, over-the-top production actually has some value, in that it gives other sick **** something to hope for.
