Got My Real ID(Temporary) Today At The California DMV

It's really easy at the DMV now as long as you have an appointment. I need that Real ID to fly and glad I got it. I was in and out of the Santa Monica location DMV in 20 minutes. Record time. I dealt with 5 desk employees and one female security guard and everybody was nice and friendly. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. I'll give the people at the California Department of Motor Vehicles a big "Atta boy!" In about 2 weeks I will get my permanent Real ID with picture in the mail.

Go get your Real ID if you need it. Your DMV has probably improved issuing Real IDs too.

I dropped the CDL, and got the plain old DL for 8 years. I won't fly, and I won't be leaving the country. They were quick, and polite, but I think the ID itself looks like shit.

In the next 5 years I am doing a certain amount of international travel. Every house party I go to I get a line of people asking me the same thing. "Sooooooooooooo... have you been to The Philippines yet?" The answer is no but I mean to go. They're nice people wanting to share their culture. We're trying to go next year. Still have to go to Italy as our Italian trip got postponed. Maybe other places and stuffs too.

My wife got the whole package, in case she travels with her mom. I'm not big on traveling anymore, whet I did do was in the US, and I would rather drive anyway. I used to be able to go for long stretches at a time. I drove from Boston to Cleveland straight thru. Took 16 hours and more coffee then I can recall. But that was 30 years ago.

I haven't been to back to the DMV in years. When I moved from Florida to Virginia, I was told to get a license here in Virginia, I had to have two forms of ID and three pieces of mail which had my physical address on it (not mailing which is everything since I have a PO Box). I was told the three pieces of mail all had to be bills from companies and could not be from my car insurance, credit card, or cell phone bill. I was rejected from getting a driver's license twice and ended up going to a DMV out in the middle of nowhere who just kind of rolled their eyes at the main branch and finally issued me one.
