GOP : Gay marriage ? Boooo ! Child marriage? Fuck yeah !

GOP bill would eliminate age requirements for marriages in Tennessee

A proposal making its way through the state legislature would establish a common-law marriage between “one man” and “one woman.”
Opponents of the bill (HB 233) say it would eliminate an age requirement
, and in some instances, open the door for a coverup of child sex abuse.

The bill’s sponsor, Tom Leatherwood (R-Arlington) said the law being considered would add a new marriage option for Tennesseans.
“So, all this bill does is give an alternative form of marriage for those pastors and other individuals who have a conscientious objection to the current pathway to marriage in our law,” Leatherwood said.

But missing from the bill are age requirements, opening the door for possible child marriages — something the bill sponsor acknowledged during a Children and Family Affairs subcommittee.
“There is not an explicit age limit,” Leatherwood said.

Rep. Mike Stewart (D-Nashville), who sits on the subcommittee the bill passed out of, said he doesn’t understand the motivation
.
“I don’t think any normal person thinks we shouldn’t have an age requirement for marriage,” he said.
He added it could open up the possibility to cover up child sex abuse.
“It should not be there, as it’s basically a get-out-of-jail-free card for people who are basically committing statutory rape — I mean it’s completely ridiculous, so that’s another reason why this terrible bill should be eliminated,” Stewart said.

The Sexual Assault Center of Middle Tennessee released the following statement to News 2:
“The Sexual Assault Center does not believe the age of consent for marriage should be any younger than it already is. It makes children more vulnerable to coercion and manipulation from predators, sexual and other.”

According to UNICEF, approximately 300,000 girls and boys in the U.S. were married before reaching 18 years old between 2000-2018.
Under current Tennessee law, one can get married as young as 17 years old with parental consent.
The bill will be heard in the House Civil Justice committee Wednesday.

And then you've got MTG who calls KBJ and any senators who would vote for her pro-pedophile. I wonder what would be her opinion about that bill...

Makes sense. Tom "Leatherwood" is the sponsor. Is he some kind of S&M hero? :p :) Maybe, just maybe, he's on the K-I-N-K-Y side. Let's investigate him.

To be honest, I expected this guy to represent eastern TN - not somewhere on the outskirts of Memphis.

It would be one thing if it were an oversight and the age limit omission was inadvertent, but the fact that he acknowledged it without amending it is pretty telling.
Honestly, without the acknowledgment from him, I wouldn't have posted it, I would have given him the benefit of the doubt.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
This is one of my main problems with these guys. What in the fuck do they care who's in love, and who they want to marry. As long as they're over 18, mentally competent for marriage ( I actually typed that with a straight face), and both of the human race, so what, let them, and when a divorce comes around, it gets handled just like anybody else's would be. And the same for adoption, if they pass the rigorous back round checks, let them have kids....the fact is, they can be the best parents in the world, and they're kids are going to do what kids do. Hetero couples fail at relationships and parenting everyday.

Maybe if they would move past this archaic thinking, they could actually get someone else in the Whitehouse.

Remember : Blackburn is a senator from Tennesse. The same state that proposed the bill that would eliminate age requirements for marriage...
Mote, beam, etc...

Feel free to flame me, but I think Gay Marriage is perfectly normal.

The era of 14 year old getting married should be in the past.

From a discourse perspective, I think more than one thing can be bad.
For instance (all in my opinion); Child pornography, minors getting married, overly sexualizing education to young children ; are all bad.

It seems an argument of a very weak mind to counter a complaint of child pornography with "Oh, but you're ok with minors getting married!"

I'm against both.

I don't think you're going to find many people here, that are going to argue child porn is bad, and I don't know anywhere in the U.S. that minors are allowed to get married, but as far as the past goes, girls got married at 15, had 4 kids by 20, but died in their 40's. So in the past, it seems like it was a logical thing, plus science hadn't a clue yet, and society hadn't established what we considered moral, by today's standards.

It does strike me a little odd though. I've seen a couple of adult movies, and the girls literally have said, that a week or 2 previous, they were sitting in a high school classroom, and then proceed to do very nasty things. Things girls in my age group didn't do. You heard a rumor here and there, but for the most part, they weren't doing 20 guys, or getting plowed by a schlong bigger then their forearm. Now a days, underage girls, and boys, know more then I did at that age, and do more, with a more casual attitude then girls from my era ( I'm 56, and graduated in '83 ). Young adults now a days, have so much exposure to instantaneous info, and gratification, it's ruined them.

I think if Iphones were a thing when I was in high school, many of the boys never would have come out of their bedrooms.
