yes bogota is a huge city.
of course stay out of the poor areas as you would do in any city in the world.
dont wear shorts and sandals, you'll look like a typical gringo backpacker who deserves to be robbed or cheated.
dont talk loud, be relaxed.
p.s., stay away from other tourists, usually theyre fucking idiots.
the hostels also, filled with dirty backpackers smokin pot and doing coke.

I will stay at a hotel called Dann Carleton north of the city near Chia.

Not sure if I am looking for sex with prostitutes or strippers but I think I would like experience a Colombian strip club.

Probably would like to hang out in some of the nicer clubs to meet real people.

If you want to meet real people, be in the center, dont be in the north, you will be far away from the best action.
Dan Carlton is just another posh hotel, there are other hotels in the center whch will put you closer to the action, if thats what you're looking for.

not trying to argue snaus, of course you can dress how you like, you can also put a big sign on your back that says GRINGO TOURIST if you want.
whats platypus a hostel? sure theres info there i suppose, also a lot of filthy backpackers.
i guess expats is another name for foreigners that live there.
if there are foreigners there that hang out in strip clubs they are just usually old, out of shape , ugly whore mongers.
sure they might have info on strip clubs, but i wouldnt hang out with them personally.

The reality is, if you want to know the real Bogota, get into the real Bogota.

I would also suggest lonely planet's Colombia Guide, or Frommers. If you are going to be there for a week or two, i would strongly suggest a trip south (10 hour green bus, pretty fast) to San Agustin. Beautiful town of 18k people with a real mystery, the ancient civilization that lived there before the spanish came. They've unearthed 10 percent of the statues and they think there are several pyramids buried there. The statues themselves are unbelievable Mayan level works.
Then if you are a little adventurous head south for 3 more hours to the upper amazon basin town of Mocoa, with some of the most stunning girls i saw in Colombia. But fair warning, this area was under siege by FARC for a while and declared unsafe to travel to. It had been cleared when i went there 3 years ago, but things change rapidly so its a good idea to consult the latest advisories.

what it says snaus is that ive lived in medellin for 4 or 5 years, ive encountered a lot of foreigners here and have formed the opinion that most of them are either smelly backpackers with very bad hygeine here for cheap coke and pot or older pervs hunting pussy.
both give foreigners a bad rep and i dont care for them.

and sure bc many colombians are fair skinned with light eyes, you'll be surprised.
