GM recalling 1.3 million vehicles over steering problems

DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Co is recalling 1.3 million compact cars in North America to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury, the company said on Tuesday.

U.S. safety regulators opened an investigation on January 27 into approximately 905,000 Cobalt models in the United States after receiving more than 1,100 complaints of power steering failures. The complaints included 14 crashes and one injury.

The recall covers the 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 in the United States; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada, and the 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico, GM said in a statement.

Damn those pesky GOVERNMENT REGULATORS!!!

Why can't they just leave those car companies alone.

I'm sure Toyota and GM would've found and fixed the problem on their own!

Well, some were suggesting days ago the g'ment was taking out "GM's chief competitor" in Toyota (never mind that they're not, Ford is and Toyota caused their recalls not the g'ment) by investigating their safety recalls. To which I promptly explained that the g'ment would be investigation Ford, Chrysler or GM no differently.

I suppose we now proof of that here.

Conspiracy...
GM recalled their vehicles before it was out of hand and there have only been fourteen reported incidences.

Toyota, on the other hand, knew about their problem around 2004 and did nothing. They also bragged about saving money by not recalling their vehicles.

The Toyota death toll is around 70 people.

GM is the better safer vehicle.

They can't use the old catch phrase anymore: The car in front is a Toyota.

This would be the time to buy stock so when both companies get back on their feet it will skyrocket back up and you will be living the high life in some tropical paradise with 50 women begging to bang you!

Trust me, I read the business section of the newspaper today, I'm a professional.

Careful...you're making the case for daddy g'ment regulating. As you're suggesting the theory that a business will naturally and always do what is in their customer's best interest because it is in their best interest has failed us again.

As a liberal I think the theory works flawlessly on paper and is ideal. As a pragmatist who lives in the real world I understand that a business is not some dispassionate, mechanical entity but an entity comprised of fallible humans. As such there will almost always be weak links that will put their personal, short term, self interests ahead of the long term interests of the company.

It's been demonstrated time and time again.

Goddamn that's alot of cars being recalled!

I am?

I was trying to say.....buy domestic vehicles, not foreign.

Toyota is the one that let their vehicles problem go and GM fixed their problem quickly.
GM only had 14 claims when they decided to do this recall.

Imported vehicles should be held to a high standard or stop letting them sale their garbage here.

Times like these I am glad I own 3 Fords

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Although I only own 1, and my other 2 are not...I have always had a variety of Mustang in the fleet.

Wouldn't that be the point of saying, "Careful" indicating you were unknowingly making yet another point???
