Gluten

I came across one that took the cake several weeks back. I was looking around in the toothpaste isle at Walmart. I saw this Colgate toothpaste that touted Gluten Free? WTF? A toothpaste Gluten Free? Well who the fuck goes around having toothpaste as a meal or even as a snack? Sheesh! :picardfacepalm:

Would this also imply there is toothpaste with gluten in it? Now that would be weird.
A quick check on google tells me toothpaste does not contain gluten although it is possible that special toothpaste for smokers and toothpaste for dentures can contain minimal traces of gluten, which would not have an effect on people with celiac since the possibility of these minimal traces of gluton getting in the digestive system are extremely small.

I suppose as long as they can exploit gullibility they'll keep throwing weird shit on the market.

Exactly! It's like lots of foods, especially potato chips indicating - "No Trans Fats."
Well shit. I have yet to see any potato chips or any food for that matter indicating / admitting that it does contain Trans Fats.
So yeah, they'll tout the "No Trans Fats" in pretty easy to see letters ... but, they don't bring up, "Oh, but be forewarned --- It does contain a shit load of the other kind of regular FAT!"

Yes, marketing / advertising is some seriously manipulative bullshit. Those mind games with the toothpaste and gluten would be the reverse situation of those so-called "Vodka" variety Spaghetti Sauces. REALLY? Is there REALLY gonna be a significant amount of Vodka in a Spaghetti Sauce to warrant the word "Vodka" in pretty good-sized lettering on the jar? Should one not drive after having a big bowl of Spaghetti with Vodka Spaghetti Sauce on it? :rofl2:

I'll never forget that line in the movie Picture Perfect where Jennifer Aniston's character's Advertising Boss tells her, "Heyyy! I didn't lie. I SOLD." :1orglaugh
So that's probably what the Gluten Marketing people would say, "Heyyy! We're not lying or manipulating. We're selling." Uh huh. :baconsalt:

I have seen bottled water that was labeled gluten free.

My favourite is nuts-may contain nuts, no shite Sherlock. As somebody with chronic IBS it is crucial to identify your intolerances & avoid them, but no doubt a lot of companies are exploiting it like putting Gluten free on toothpaste & charging 2 or 3 times as much as regular toothpaste-who the hell swallows toothpaste?

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I believe a lot of these things ailments and sensitivities are from over-exposure. The more I've stayed away from gluten, the better I feel.

Is it real? You bet.

For me, I don't think it solely the gluten, rather everything that comes along with it. Many products containing gluten are loaded with salt, carbohydrates, preservatives, etc - all of which make you retain water, which adds weight to your body, which puts stress on your body, which can lead to pain, etc.

I find that when I eat a low-carb diet, my body feels tremeeeeendously better. My aches and pains go away, my heart beats easier, I breathe easier, I have more energy - it's nice. Does cutting out the gluten help? Yeah. But, I think there's a bunch of other things happening too.
