A legit reason to invade another country! Even the bullshit politicians in the UK can never give a 'legit' reason for Afghanistan. So, I'd like to know what it was? If its terrorism, then we should have invaded Ireland. If its human rights we should invade Burma.

It was for the $1 trillion of untapped minerals as well as the strategic positioning of the country (between Russia and Iran ) not for the Islamic radicals, the CIA pretty much created these guys back in the 80s. With hindsight and looking at British military capability now, it would appear to be an even more convincing argument that Bliar was cock sucking the Americans. It was Britain's twilight years of having any semblance of being a world military power. But what a price Britain has paid. Historically, Britain had respect in those regions, but Bliar wanted to play along with the power crazed, 'fuck you' policies of America. If you go around the world building airbases, threatening, demanding and acting like the world police, eventually its going come back to bite you on your ass. America, unfortunately, had to see that its not invincible, that you can't maintain being a 'super power' by military means alone. Its just a pity Britain was in bed with America when America got itself learned.

OK, I'm being a bit hard on UAVs, but this is because you can't seriously expect a single engine aircraft to stay aloft that long without engine failure being a serious risk and you absolutely can not use a hellfire anti tank/anti bunker missile to take out a single man in a tiny mid-eastern village without collateral damage.

Yeah. You may have noticed that you had the same gung-ho attitude at the start of Vietnam, but you later switched to COIN.

If your military is in any way smart (and since they introduced stryker and are severely lacking in artillery I doubt it) then they will (re)invent COIN.

D. Then it's back to Afghanistan circa the 90s and once again a safe haven for AQ/Tali.
If we pay Afghans to kill each other it's hardly a safe haven. They'll fight for $6 a day and who cares if they take casualties? It's an all around win situation.

You can't use torture as a reliable means of extracting intel because
A: They'll lie (false info) to make it stop.
B: If they don't believe you believe they're innocent (when they are innocent) then they'll lie to make it stop.
C: You radicalise people against you.

Britain has more than just respect, we also have knowledge and experience in the regions. We know you can't rule over proud Arabs with an iron fist, you have to earn their trust Lawrence Of Arabia ( a Brit ) style and we've already failed in Afghanistan. We know the middle east and far east like the back of our hands and had colonies there before America even existed and yet Blair still led into what we should've known would've been a complete failure, we've learnt a very harsh lesson as well as making ourselves a target from Islamic extremists who will forever associate us with Bush.

i'm so sick of this topic but i will say that i will never say anything or express criticism towards any country or terrorist group that tortures , rapes or kills its prisoners or kidnap victims.
