British lives were saved by the use of information obtained from terrorist suspects by "waterboarding", according to former US President George W Bush.

In his memoir, he said the simulated drowning technique helped break plots on Heathrow Airport and Canary Wharf.

Number 10 declined to comment directly on the claims but said it considered waterboarding to be torture

If Britain had used waterboarding 20 years ago on IRA suspects during the height of the Northern Ireland troubles what would the then US administration have said about it? No doubt it would have been heavily criticised as they feared losing the Irish Catholic support, double standards much. Also great to see Bush saying he doesn't care what the British people thought of him or the case for war, glad to see all our boys who died in his phony wars are being thought of. Why we got involved with that jackass I don't know, guess we have Tony Bliar to thank for that.

We've been through this before so I can only conclude that the proponents of torture on this board lack the brains to understand any of the arguments against water-boarding (big surprise). I'll clue you in a little- it's got nothing to do with the person being waterboarded and everything to do with whether or not you want to be a civilized country or a medieval one.
