George Steinbrenner Dead At 80

"Babe Ruth was nothing more than a fat old man with little girl legs!"

Dr Jerry Buss of the L.A. Lakers says hello.:wave2:

And from all accounts Buss treats/treated everyone with respect/loyalty. Won 10 rings as Lakers owner in less than 25 (?)years. There is a way to the top without being vindicative/spiteful/neurotic,etc...

Only vices for Buss are the outrageously young women(more power to him) , gambling & that dreadful looking hairpiece.:1orglaugh

I'm not saying that I liked Steinbrenner, I'm just saying that he was unique. The recent Laker's run is more of a product of Mitch Kupchak's than Buss' though. I am a big Laker fan, and I would say that, yes, Buss' desire and commitment to winning rival that of Steinbernner's, but Steinbrenner was far more public and personally proactive in the teams that he owned than Buss (who is a notably less vocal and visible owner) is, along with the fact that there is a maximum that NBA teams can spend on their salaries. The Lakers couldn't go into free agency and spend $400 gazillion to get any player(s) that they want, as Steinbrenner was known for doing with the Yankees. As a side note, IMO the Lakers don't really even need to do that if they could, because they have the best team in the league already, but that's a different conversation. Point being, I'm not saying I liked the man (Steinbrenner) or the Yankees, just that I can see why Yankee fans do/did, they were able to relate to his sheer and undying publicly known desire to win.

George Steinbrenner was a legend and will remain such forever in baseball and sports history.

His impact on the game of baseball and US sports in general was immense and should be felt through his loss. I wonder what path the NY Yankees and other holdings he was involved in will take.
