I would definitely make a couple changes here and there but I think it's a pretty decent list. My top three personally would probably be Civilization II, Shadow of the Colossus, and then FF7

Also surprised, but mentioned above, that SimCity isn't on here. Seriously? I really think that was an oversight because that game was addicting, fun and not to mention revolutionary for games

Gears of War 3 ahead of Mass Effect 2 is an egregious miscarriage of justice. I know ME2 has it's detractors but that game is certainly top 50. No Morrowind? Half-life 2?

how are App games on this list? words w/friends and angry birds. popular,Yes! top games of all time? No stop it!
how is Doom II in the top 20 but Doom not even on the list?

Of course Super mario bros was #1. IMO that is not a very good game. but it's my opinion cause i barely ever played it.my friends and i would all gather to play video games and they would play SMB and i would get bored. i think i never got farther than level 2 because i got bored out of my skull!

Mrs. pac-man but no pac-man? an iconic game?

what is #47? Must? never heard of it? is that supposed to be MYST? and if so #47? should be top 20...possibly top 10!

resident evil @ #81 but RE IV higher @ #21? baffling!

how is GoW III on the list but not GoW??? baffling!

red dead redemtion @#46 all time game? stop! was it a great game yes but not a top 100 all-time. unless it's just me but i think a lot of the games on this list were play and forget games. but i think most games now are like that. you buy a game play it,beat it,trade it in and get the next new game and repeat that cycle!

spend a lot of time with my friends talking about this stuff. chrono trigger and ff seven always top our lists. never been a fan of mario or and zelda games, but they made their dents in the world of gaming and i understand them being on top lists, but the app games, really? some games i have just heard of on there, but never played. would have had chrono and ff seven higher, way higher.

On the app game thing:
I can see having an app game in there. Angry birds, I can even see. But, if we are going with "greatest", we have to take into account influence and earliest. Which would put Mafia Wars up there...as much as I hate to say, as I loath the game.
This list needs a lot of work, but frankly, that is what I find so much fun about them.

I've never played any RE games prior to 4, but that game is soooooo amazingly awesome. I beat it like 5 times on gamecube when it came out, then bought it on XBLA in January and beat it again, and I'm probably gonna start it over again soon. It's so re-playable.

As for Gears, I agree with you. I'd probably have put 3 higher...err....lower? (better), but I'd have put 1 in the top 20, personally. It's got one of my all time favorite story modes ever. There's just something so gritty about it, and while 2 and 3's campaigns were awesome, they just couldn't replicate the 1st's awesomeness.

Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games all time in my opinion. Obviously I haven't played all the games on that list, but its in my top 5 ever hands down. And I've played my share of games. Perhaps the single greatest story in a video game ever.

Sorry. i never realized the GoW could be for 2 games until now! That's kind of why I never cared about God Of War. It just seemed like you were supposed to mash buttons in the direction of the closest enemy the whole time. Not a bad game, but I couldn't do it for more than an hour at a time. My brother was fucking obsessed with it.

Just because it isn't for everyone, doesn't mean its not hugely popular/important. Those games have made billions of dollars in the past few years, and it all started with CoD 4:MW completely revamping the series.
