Free stuff at store question?

I just spent an hour looking thru help/faqs at the store and couldn't find the answer there. Did a search of this string and read posts, no answer there either. My question is .....if u add a "free" dvd to ur cart, do u have to have credit card to check it out like many sites do for "verification purposes", and also at what time do i need to pay shipping and handling? upfront or when order arrives? By the way, the selection is quite impressive!! thanks in advance for ur help.
