Another free one I use is OKCupid. Thing is, though - they drastically changed it probably slightly over a year ago. You get daily matches, but they show as "Likes" to the receiving member. And, FREE members can NOT see Likes.. so, 99% of e-mails are not returned..
I guess you could use site Search features, and e-mail members directly. Those *should* be able to be read, and contact established..
Since changing over, I did pay - January 2020, likely. For some asinine reason, you can NOT search By Name?! And, the site is set up to use member's first names. So, all the Likes I sent - I could not locate them, to e-mail them "outside" of the Likes.
You can try it, but be prepared for an extremely high level of frustration.

If you want pussy, go to tinder, if you want love, break loose, and go with e harmony, or the other one, I have a relative that is happily married from e harmony, and know a couple of other people that have had success with reputable services....I have a friend that had lots of fun on tinder, and that's all he wanted. If you can't afford a company that wants you to find love, stay away from a site, and go to the grocery store, or the library, and pick up a chick. You probably aren't gonna find a girlfriend or wife on a free site.
I have a close friend who met her husband on Match. They've been married almost 20 years so I guess anything is possible. As for my own experience, Match was the site I met the most women. Virtually all of them were VERY serious about finding a long-term relationships. At the time, so was I. Never tried e-harmony.
Conversely, you're right about Tinder, definitely a place to get laid - whether you're single or married.
I tried POF many, many years ago when it was simpler format. I was probably around 45-50 years old at the time. I believe I had only a half-dozen dates, none of which went beyond a second date. Maybe it's changed, but after a while I felt the women I was encountering enjoyed chatting online more than actually meeting in person.
At the end of the day, I think you're right: go to a store, market, library, etc, and strike up a conversation. Plus, the lighting is good so no unpleasant surprises later!

I met my wife thru a local newspaper personal ad in Scene Mag. It was before any type of computer dating existed...before any reasonable home unit was available. I've also read a great deal of books about serial killers. SO. When I read about a "Craig's List" killer, or some **** like that, I couldn't, or wouldn't trust any internet based service besides the 2 or 3 that are well known, and you pay for. That being the case, if I were single, might as well stick to places that put people together, like a store. Worse case scenario, she tells you to fuck off, and walks away. Plus, a lot of grocery stores have coffee shops in them now, that's always a non threatening, low pressure beverage, and if you chug it, you just have a caffeine issue. At 56 years old, and 26 years of marriage/dating I'll never do it again. I'm happy, and I love her with all my heart, but the whole "effort" of finding someone, is not something I'm gonna deal with again.

Facebook also offers dating for free on their mobile app. It's set up like Tinder. It seems most girls are only there for the "likes" and there are A LOT of fake profiles.

I'm on bumble now ! It's been better for the white girls ahha, well only met one and she was a tad bit young and not ready for anything from what I could tell. We played mini golf in a dark place so that didn't help. I was paying for a tinder subscription last year over 10 months or may have been 9 months. Regardless, bumble has been my preferred. I would however never pay for a membership on a dating website if I had to do it again!
