Kudos to the surgeon, it's hard enough to get to play for a top Serie A side like Cagliari let alone go on to become a top surgeon, and still only 36! :hatsoff:
Former footballer reattaches hand of builder who cut it off with saw
Builder Harry Wones seemed destined to lose his hand after it was cut through by a circular saw – until former Italian football-turned-surgeon Andrea Figus led a team to reattach it.
Saved: Surgery performed by Andrea Figus on Harry Wones' hand after he severed it with a circular saw helped save it
X-ray shows the severity of the damage
Harry Wones spent ten hours under the ***** as former Cagliari player Andrea Figus and other experts took a vein from his foot to reconstruct the arteries in the palm of his left hand and restore the ***** flow.
The ******-of-one, from Ellingham, Suffolk, is now receiving physiotherapy twice a week as he takes the steps to a full recovery.
He praised the Sardinian surgeon and his colleagues at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, describing them as ‘first class’.
‘Mr Figus was so positive – he was absolutely brilliant,’ he added.
Mr Wones, 33, was working on a house on February 4 when he lost concentration. The razor-sharp saw sliced through his palm, leaving it attached by a piece of skin.
He was taken by air ambulance to hospital where Mr Figus performed the surgery.

The former Italian Serie A player, 36, said: ‘He was very lucky because he did not lose anything and we were able to save his hand. In terms of function he won’t recover completely 100 per cent because all structures have been completely cut.
‘What we eventually hope is to give him the pinch function. Hopefully if he recovers half the function he had before that would be a great result.’
