Sooo... verdict sounds like:

Unnecessary. Upgrading FF is like updating windows. DONT DO IT immediately, cuz plugins(drivers in win) need a wee bit of time to update themselves.

Or to just use common sense, stop fixing it. It's not broken.

WTF now 6 is already out? Didn't 4 and 5 just came out with like 4 weeks in between?!

Basically, FF is trying to keep up with Chrome right now. Instead of going 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 like normal people, each update is a new number. There is no difference between a new version and a minor update.

To compete, FF did the same. So right now this is really just FF 4.2.

When they roll out new versions, sometimes the plug-in's are not compatible. When I went to v5, my multi-row bookmarks wouldn't work and I was beyond pissed, but I found a blog on how to make it work. Several more of my plug-in's were not compatible either and I had to wait about 3 weeks on a couple of them. On v6, I've only got one that isn't working, but I can get around the problem for a short time.

Alas, poor FireFox, we knew you well ....

It's all over for FF - it's the MySpace of browsers - awesome in its time, now overtaken, outdated and out of touch.

Next ........

I disagree. Internet Exporer is out of touch. The only reason it's still around is due to it being pre-loaded on PC's and people new to the internet not realizing that it's a piece of shit and there are other choices. Also, is MicroSoft ever going to learn that the interface for My Favorites (bookmarks) is so outdated, it's no longer funny, it's just pathetic.

As for the likes of Chrome, Opera, Iron; they too are out of touch, albeit for different reasons. I know a lot of people feel alienated by tabbed browsing being forced down their throats. At least Firefox gives you the option of turning it off. Also, Chrome/Opera/Iron are not exactly user-friendly for people just starting to learn how to use PC's and the internet.

One good thing about v6: I had several sites where the display never loaded right and some of the text/pics would bleed into one another and/or banners would display in blocks that weren't placed right. All but one of those sites now looks right.

One bad thing about v6: Under bookmarks, the Show All Bookmarks and Bookmark This Page are now backwards and every time I go to bookmark a page, I end up showing the bookmarks. It's gonna take me a while to get used to this.

Is it possible to swap the Show All Bookmarks and Bookmark This Page entries on the pull-down menu? This is driving me fucking nuts!

I totally agree re: IE and preloading.

But as far as Chrome being n00b unfriendly ..well, maybe for a while, but even allowing for that 'fault' the overall performance of Chrome/Iron kicks the shit out of anything else out there.

Just dl'd CometBird & is great as its just like FireFox and I don't see any speed differences. I stopped using FF since its startup search webpage is now powered by the lame Ask.com and not by Google. CB still uses Google.

Anyway, I'm also using Chrome and Safari but never IE. :yesyes:
