Firefox 3.5 Final Released

After months of waiting, numerous Betas, and 4 RCs, Mozilla has finally released Firefox 3.5.

All of my benchmarking seems consistent with what Mozilla has claimed in terms of speed and performance improvements. Firefox 3.5 is now on par with Google Chrome speed wise. And the feature sure to be loved by FreeOnes Board members, private browsing has finally made its native appearance in the browser.

Thoughts on the release/new version?

^Kick-ass! Comparative speed tests are always contentious and debatable...but, for me anyhow, FF just gets better

I'm using actual statistics of the program running, those are objective facts. I agree that browsers make claims about improvements all the time without the improvements actually happening (see Apple), but I've got real data to back this up. If I have time tomorrow I'll try to get the results from my 4 other computers with it installed tomorrow.

I just did a check and quite a lot of my addons will be incompatible with it. I'll hang on a bit before updating.

Actually, I noticed the same thing, but all but one of my add-ons were in fact supported, I just didn't have the most recent versions.

...Objective! ???;)

k-meleon is also pretty good; lightening-fast and useful for 'older' machines. :)

I did a check later and the updates are now there!Like you, I didn't have all the latest versions. In particular I use the "undo last closed tab" addon because I'm always closing the wrong window!
Happily using v 3,5 now

You go to ESPN.com? That is such a pain in the ass website to load that I quit going there about a decade ago. Since I have been on the Internet that has been continually one of the worst designed ones I have ever known from a large organization for years. Although if I could get it to load in a second and a half it wouldn't be that bad.

Can you compare it to opera 10 beta? That browser is fast as hell

Not really. I just used it as an example because I know it's multimedia rich. I figured that would be a good way to test the browser speeds for sheer volume of information.

Sure, I can do that. I'll try to get that up and running in the next few days if I have time, although the only thing I would caution is that it is still a beta, and while substantial improvements could be made at this point, it's most likely that the biggest changes won't arrive until the final version is released.

I have reported a bug where the add-ons keep getting corrupted with any update (add on or browser). Since I could repeat it in 3.5 (but not previous), they're looking into it. It's probably the combination of add-ons I use.
