Favre changes his mind. Again.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Even with Favre, the Vikings won't win the NFC North. That spot belongs to DA BEARS.

PS - My made up words are awesome.

Here's one for you: last game, Cutler looked very Grossmanesque behind center. I wouldn't pin my hopes on him.

Accuscore did a stat comparison. Pretty interesting.

Without Favre playing.

NFC North------Playoffs------Win Div.------Win------Loss

Green Bay-------64%---------41%---------10--------6

Minnesota-------63%---------41%---------9.8-------6.2

Chicago---------35%---------17%---------8.6-------7.4

Detroit-----------1%----------1.7%--------3.7------12.3

With Favre Playing

NFC North-------Playoffs-------Win Div------Win-------Loss

Minnesota--------75%------------55%-------10.7------5.3

Green Bay--------59%------------31%--------10--------6

Chicago----------32%------------14%--------8.4-------7.6

Detroit------------1%-------------1%--------3.7-------12.3

How do you win .6 of a game, or lose .4 of a game?

Did people honestly think that the Vikings had a legitimate chance of winning the division before Favre signed? Two words...

Wishful thinking on your behalf, I think. If AP and Favre stay healthy, and our wideouts prove to be decent, ain't no one F'in with the queens this year, at least not in the NFC North.

Not even. They have one of the best D's, the best back, and a damn fine offense all-around. The only piece they were missing for a legitimate run was a QB, and they way Favre played the first half last year, if he can recapture that, they will be trouble in the NFC north. I think they easily win the NFC north and if Favre stays healthy they will be a serious threat. Does that mean I will root for them? No. I don't root for them anymore.

Four-time Super Bowl losers. :yesyes:

STDiva may have a point. Favre put up a Passer Rating Index of 97 last year, which is below league average (average is 100). Tarvaris Jackson put up 117, which makes him much better than Favre at this point.

Also Mark Schlereth brought up an interesting point: there hasn't been a team in NFL history that has had marked improvement in a season by adding "one missing piece". It just doesn't happen in the NFL that teams gets absurdly good based on one addition. It has however happened many times that a team has played together for a number of years, and gotten successively better every year.

From what I understand this all stems from the way him and GB parted ways. Dude's royaly pissed about something that happened behind closed doors. We might never know, but from what he has said publicly, they treated him like shit.

For me, this prompts me to say be a man, say you've got a problem, and move on. This whole process in my view has stripped him of just about every bit of dignity he had.

Does anyone know if it was a two year deal? All morning I head on ESPN it was a one year deal, but someone on there at one point said it was a two year contract.

Yeah, it's a two year deal, $12 for this year and $13 for next.

It's all projections, so the numbers are really just averages they've roughly come up with.

It's a good thing that pre-season games mean absolutely nothing then, huh? And, although I'm very happy that we have Cutler, I'm more pleased with the fact that our team is actually gelling together sooner than later. In the past few years, the Bears have taken a while to start acting as a team, but they've been doing a good job of it already this year. That's a good sign, IMO.

That's a lot of "ifs"...:dunno:

And, don't take your Week 1 victory against the Browns as some sort of sign. It's the Browns and everybody beats the Browns.

Nobody in the the division is really all that great. GB was good two years ago (shoudl've won it all - 13-3) when they had, you guessed it...Favre. But I'd say the NFL has always been a league pretty wide open, except for a select few (Detroit, Buffalo, Houston, etc.)

I'd venture to say just two years ago he was one of the best, if not the best. And last year through the first eight games he was a damn fine player. Don't be surprised if he does some things this year.

Don't we all wish we could get a 2 year contract and that kind of money to get even with a former employer? I don't wish an injury on him but in that division his partial rotator tear will keep him from finishing the season so the Vikings had better hope for improvement from the other QBS.

There's a lot of suspicious stuff with all this Favre stuff: his missing mini camp; the Vikings treatment of their other QB's; MN's want for a new stadium.

Didn't Favre sign a clause when he left GB that he wouldn't go to a team in the NFC North? I'm pretty sure.

I don't really care, one way or the other. I like old school football, where guys were getting their heads knocked off just for breathing. Now that was entertainment. The "Purple People Eaters" were a fun group to watch. ;)

No, Green Bay traded him too New York for the final year of his contract, and they put a provision in with the trade (two first round draft picks as compensation to Green Bay if Favre was traded by New York) that stated if New York traded him to anybody else before that season was out then the provision would happen. That pretty much guaranteed that he couldn't play anywhere else, because nobody in there right mind would trade him again if it cost them that. Once his year with New York was done he completed his contract and could go anywhere he wanted at that point.

Favre is a bigger attention whore than Terrell Owens.

I don't know about that. But I do believe the cat can't make his mind up for shit. He wanted to retire (he did retire) from the fudge Packers, then he wanted to come back. Then he wanted to retire again and then he wanted to come back. That's the most frustrating thing. Just make'yer damn mind up already, eh.

You're right, two years ago he was. But statistically, he was an anomaly. Last year, for the first 8 games he was 12th in terms of DYAR value for the Jets. From then on he was fourth to last, although his interception percentage stayed roughly the same the whole season.

I'm not putting it past him to have a decent year, but I'd be hard pressed to say he's going to be good. If he plays to his career line, Viking fans will start complaining about how often he throws interceptions, despite the fact that he's thrown them at the same rate throughout his career.

There has been some thoughts in some circles on Favre for a few years that his age and the beating he has taken over his career has made it so he has a hard time not declining as the season wears on and his body gets more exhausted. It's made even worse by his consecutive games played record and his past durability where it's just not even considered that his age might effect him more than it does or that he should sometimes be spotted by somebody else and given some rest.

I would tend to agree with that sentiment considering the beatings he's taken.
